WANTED: POLICE
I am a 13+ year police officer (US native resident) looking to possibly make a move to the USVI area. Outside of the limited information provided by the USVI government and police websites, I am seeking anyone (USVI police officer preferred - one who has transferred from the states, if available) who has insider information concerning the police department in that area. I am looking for information such as general working conditions, hours and rotation requirements, specifics on the benefits package, etc. I have been in this business long enough to know that there is always more to everything than what is lead on to be. I will provide an email address for any leads provided. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
I'm not in law enforcement, but I have met many of the officers on STT...and I don't think but maybe one of them is from off-island. Transferring into the VIPD may be a difficult undertaking, as a lot of things here are not 'what' you know, but 'who'...
There is a LOT OF TALK to get off island people for the force. But I have not seen a lot of action!

start with emailing the governers office and taking it from there, or delegate christensens office
We met one police officer who had transferred from state side. He was married to a local girl. Other than that we met tons of feds. U.S. Marshals, TSA (airport)
Thanks for all of your input. My main goal with this post is to get 'insider' info that you can not find in government offices. A police officer working for that PD will give a straight story, otherwise called the 'truth', instead of a bureaucrats answer, which is too sugar coated or generic to decipher the 'real story'. Articles and generic contacts will not tell you the real working conditions, department professionalism, etc. It is not the effort to later find that this career move was a bad idea. I currently work with a department that holds professionalism as its highest standard because of the belief that image is everything - that is what I am looking for.
While I am sure there are many fine men and women in the USVI Police Department, - "professionalism as its highest standard because of the belief that image is everything - that is what I am looking for" - no you will not be happy in the police force here.
good sideline in payoff money though
That's the feedback I was looking for Linda. I am 100% positive that if I called any government office and laid that down they would have not told me the truth. Although I hate to admit it, from what I have read concerning pay versus cost of living, those who take payoffs may do it to survive. It still does not make it right and goes against everything a police officer stands for.
bnpd: You are the kind of officer we need and hope for. Thank you for your service where you are. I wish we could have many more like you here.
hear,hear
Hear, hear X2...but, unfortunately, not 'here, here'. Low pay, high cost of living, and an honest Officer? These just aren't found here to the degree that they should be...JMHO, of course.
Thanks for the support. We will see...
