WANTED: Construction Materials and/or Generous Hearts

The Humane Education Program teaches kindness and compassion to our children through its school visitation programs and many other educational efforts. We visit every public classroom on island, every grade.... every year .....teaching not only about responsible pet ownership and pet overpopulation concerns... but about core character values like honesty, integrity, compassion, kindness, respect and love for one another. It is a worthwhile program and Therese and her team do an awesome job. Please consider helping us in this effort to renovate a new space for Humane Education Headquarters!

They need:
20 Sheets of 1/2 inch plywood
A few pieces of insulation
2 sheets of plastic lattice.
A window for a 36" high by 70" wide opening
A 6 foot sliding glass or french door (used is fine!)
Hands filled with paint brushes, hammers, caulk and love.

Well... its an odd list of wants... but the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center is going through some really great changes. The buildings at the old facility got a facelift a couple of weeks ago by volunteers and some re-arranging of work spaces. Although the "hospital" got a whole new location and upgrades (including an onsite vet again ! yippee!) (more on this news elsewhere) ........ this post is about Humane Education!

The re-arranging meant that the Humane Education office and the Pets from Paradise office had to be moved to an old storage building on site. The new location (right there at the shelter) is awesome, and bigger, and has lot,of potential... but... it needs some work.

The room is 20 by 15 and the ceiling is open beam with exposed insulation. We want to cover the insulation with plywood and paint it. This requires 20 sheets of plywood approx. The cost per sheet is about 30.00.

There is a window opening, but no window... I priced the cheap alumninum ones - two 36" by 34" windows are $250.00.

The current doors are big barn doors and open out. We want to add a glass door inside these that opens in so that we can leave the doors open and welcoming... both for light and for a sense of welcoing.

There is a small wall that will be used to separate the Pets from Paradise space from the Humane Education Space and it needs a couple of sheets of lattice to take it to the ceiling and still allow air to flow nicely.

Theres more... paint, lighting, storage shelves... but... the basic need right now is to get moved in which means ceilings and doors.

If you would be willing to contribute $25.00 to the cause... or have any of the above materials or if you would be willing to donate your skills (carpenter to hang the sheets of plywood and install window, painters, cleaners).. we would be very appreciative.
