STX - Need inexpensive but reliable car

Hi, I'm looking for something around $1200-1500 that will get me by for six months. I've tried the Avis but all I can find is $400 junkers or $4000 newer stuff. I can't seem to find something in the middle. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!!
