Good Afternoon,
I was hoping that I could join this message board and obtain some information regarding relocating to St. Croix. I am a speech-language pathologist and my husband is a health/P.E. teacher and professional diver. We have heard wonderful things about St. Croix and are hoping to relocate there in the next few months.
We are originally from Florida, but we're currently living in Hawaii, while my husband is finishing his military career as a deep sea diver. We absolutely love Hawaii and the island lifestyle, but we have found that it is just too difficult to live this far away from our families in Florida. We feel that relocating to St. Croix could give us the best of both worlds.
I was wondering if anyone had any leads on speech therapy and/or teaching opportunities in St. Croix.
Additionally, while my husband is a teacher, his true love is scuba diving and being out on the water. He has had the most extensive dive training out there, through his diving career in the U.S. Army. We would love to know if there are any diving job opportunities for him in St. Croix or if anyone might know of where we might find one.

I would suggest inquiring at Gov. Juan Lois Med. Ctr. Hosp...340-778-6311 and ask for Personnel/Human resource Dept. re. speech Therapist. job..I believe they may need one. The other would be the Dept. of Education..Personnel Dept. at 340-772-3848, Human Resource...AND OR Special Ed.:340-718-7997.
Scuba gigs with local buisnesses like: St. Croix Ultimate bluewater Adventure: 340-773-5994, ask for Molly OR..Anchor dive Ctr.: 340-778-1522...Others on line, no doubt...Maybe for govt. agency Like DEA or Police , Coast guard: 340-772-5557 can use divers..Hovensa? Environmental agency here? or the university of Virgin Island, UVI: 340-692-4160 Nt'l.Park Service: 340-773-1460
I am a nurse and work for the Ed. Dept. and the hosp... and have a Lg. 1 Brm. apt. rental available...May have somthing when and if you come down...call anytime: 340-643-4431

The school district always has a need for speech therapists as they don't have enough to provide the mandated services for children who qualify. You would likely be sucked into the fold with great delight.
Your husband might also want to talk to the refinery about commercial diving needs as they have a staff of divers who do work on the pilings and checking out container ships, etc. There's a lot of sport diving available also as already mentioned.
I'm a SCUBA Instructor as well as a Realtor, so feel free to have him contact me if he'd like and I could fill him in more on some of the other contacts who might be useful to him depending on the type of diving he would seek.
A friend who moved down from Kansas City is a speech therapist with the schools on STX and I could also put you in touch with her to get the scoop on opportunities she found available effortlessly her first vacation trip here. They didn't want to let her out the door!
