I began looking around Jan. 1st here, Craigslist, Saint Croix buy or sell your stuff, the newspaper & I have only seen 1 rental on STX that was not NOW NOW NOW. That 1 was $3700 a month & therefore out of the question. When most of my neighbors have moved they just stiffed the landlord, so NOW worked fine for them. I'd rather leave on good terms & get my deposit back, giving him 30 days notice. Is there someplace I have not found that has month from now listings?

Have you checked with any realtors?
Sometimes they have pocket listings that are not advertised or will be coming on market. They can also send an e-mail blast to all other realtors to inquire if they have or know of something suitable.

Thanks Alana. I did look at a place that I liked through a realtor, but I wiped out my credit in the 1st 8 months of no work here. Now my score is getting better, but I think it will still be awhile before any realtor will smile kindly upon it

Some don't check unless required by landlord or you can explain situation.

Good to know. I'll start looking that direction. Meanwhile if anyone on STX has had recent experience with a realtor who didn't credit check or who took the former landlord's word about the tenants reliability, please let me know.

I think that if you have a good reference from your present landlord, you should be fine. Good luck.

What are your requirements? I looked at a place today thats a whole house. The landlord wants me to rent the downstairs. Its funky - cool thou - east end - amazing breezes safe place. I thought about doing a air B&B thing BUT would love to find someone cool and RELIABLE so I didn't have to do so much work renting out by the week. It would be $800 mo. No utilities included. Lets talk more next week when I get on STX from STT next week. If we decide to rent the upstairs - we can wait the month. also if we rent it I can even take some video for you to see. Its really too much for us to afford (and too much house) the whole house alone but with rentals so slim there I know we can rent it. It needs some paint and stuff too so a month would be a good timeline and he's agreed to take money off the rent for the work I do. Lets stay in contact... PM me your info.

The best rentals are via word of mouth and are NOT listed.
We found an awesome place that way.

Thanks, Islandtyme. Pool or beach is a must & even tho we no longer have a cat I am hoping for cat friendly because I am a pushover. Husband & I will need to toss around whether east end is too far east, but 1st let's find out more about your place.
