Hello,

I am moving to St Thomas Nov 1st. I have, well, every night I read, search and get more and more info. My plan is to get a one month rental and find and do everything in those 4 weeks. I have lived on an island before (although it was not paradise like USVI) so I understand a little more than those that have never been. I have someone in the states that will then ship (very little) to me what I have. Any input you could give me I would appreciate.
Thank you,
Chris

No PMV is very risky...just because we have nice weather certainly doesn't make us 'paradise'...be prepared to exercise your acceptance, as you will find many things will test it...good luck to you.

No PMV is totally doable - especially if you "travel light"
I moved to STX sight unseen because my husband had a great job opportunity.

CAtoSTX, I'd wager that your move was easier for two reasons...1.) You came with a spouse, and 2.) You moved to STX...STT can be somewhat less accepting, due to the prejudices of others having dealt with so many tourists for so long...JMHO, mind you, but I have lived on both isles and STX seems much more 'relaxed'....Not to say that a move with no PMV isn't doable, as I did it myself over 12 years ago...but, if I had it to do again, I'd do a PMV...

I would say like all things in life..hit or miss. Not sure about that having to deal with tourists statement but like everywhere I have been, who does not get a little irritated by slow walking ppl when you are in a hustle bustle. Just be prepared because the wages are different half the time depending on your profession and the cost of living is high.

Hmm, not sure about that statement...but...as long as you are traveling without any heavy baggage (physical or psychological) and you leave your options open for returning if things don't work out for you, you should be fine.

Really do the tourists get irritated and think we are walking that slow in their hustle bustle to buy cheap T shirts, shot glasses, refrigerator magnets, and blended drinks??
