JessJeff: You need to find something like Villa Fairview to stay in until you can look at properties for yourself(ves). You need to see what you are getting into before you sign on the dotted line.
Hi Jess,
I have a studio at Red Hook Mountain available now. You can look at my website http://www.virginislandsrentals.com. Look at the pages for Red Hook Studio 2A and 3A. Some of the furniture has been changed, actually upgraded, but you can see what the units look like. What you see is what you get! I understand a reluctance to rent unseen, and that's good advice, but we have had tenants do just that, and stay for a couple of years. Red Hook Mountain is an older complex, with a live in manager and maintenance man. They are well maintained, clean and very pleasant. My husband and I lived in one of our one bedroom units there for several years, and we absolutely loved it. You can't beat the location.
Still not convinced? I will offer short term until November 1. After that, we renegotiate. Give me a call or email or PM. My contact info is all on the website in multiple locations, but the best is casita37@hotmail.com or 340-718-6744.
Thanks for looking, and please let me know if I can help.
Juanita

We wil be there Sept 8!!! getting nervous!! anyone wanna give me thier best moving to the island advise???:-)
Yes, don't rent without being on island first. Rent a cheap hotel or someplace like villa fairview where rent is $900 a month til you find out where you want to live. Just because something looks good in pictures doesnt mean its a good deal. You really need to be here and go look at several apartments. I personally would advise you to take at least a week but two would be better. Don't make any rash choices you will regret for a year. And have to come up with first, last, and deposit again.
Usually just like stateside it is preferable to live close to work.
Jess and Jeff,
When you read the above post, do not panic! Neither Betty ,nor a couple of others, have ever seen my apartments. I'm not saying it's not good advice to be cautious. I just don't want you to start to worry. You will be just fine at our place. I PROMISE!
One of these day, I think I will hold an open house and invite all the people on this forum. Actually....that's a really good idea!
Juanita
What we always say, and I think it is VERY good advice, is to never give any kind of non-refundable deposit without seeing the house/apartment. What I might think if fine, you may hate. And you might be happy as a clam in an apartment that makes me nauseous.
The advice has nothing to do with anyone's honesty, it's just good sense. I can't think of a thing I would buy second hand, from a stranger without out inspecting it first.
You gotta admit, though, if you read this thread starting at the top, and follow each post, it certainly sounds as though Betty "knows something", which is not the case. It just sounds that way. I understand people are just giving advice, but if I were looking for a rental, I would think twice about renting from me after that post, considering it in the context of the thread.
Anyway, no worries. I'm sure Jess and Jeff will be happy there. I certainly was when I lived there.
One more week to go!!!! What to pack??? what to bring? getting nervous!! and EXCITED!!!
You guys will get more responses on the relocation board to the type of questions you are asking now, then the classified section. 🙂
how soon is soon!!!
