Looking for STX Apt / Roommate (starting January)
Am returning to the island (stx) late December / early January.
Looking for a clean and affordable apartment / room and/or roommate (should also be clean and affordable). preferably close to Christiansted or La Reine.
i'm 33 male non-smoker conducting field work on island for the year.
any bites?
I may be moving to STX around the same time, if not a little before. Looking for a cheap apartment or roommate situation as well. I am female though, don't know if that matters to you. I'll be in STX the end of October for a visit to check things out.

Here's a couple of places to look as well : http://caribbean.craigslist.org/roo/ (for roomies)

not really concerned about roommate gender. If you find yourself liking stx after your trip, send me a quick email. i am only beginning to get myself organized (since most of my stuff is already there).

Will do bkbaroo. Leaving 2 weeks from Saturday, so I'll have a better idea real soon. I've obviously been lurking on this site for quite a while as well as other sites. It seems that a three bedroom (shared among 3 people) is the better deal. Better place for the money. Any thoughts on this?

the # of roommates thing can go both ways. obviously, the nicer places are larger and can house more people, but i've seen some severe personality conflicts (and also some awesome large groups living together perfectly). i know the island well enough so just keep me in mind as you wander around and i can give you free opinions.
I hear ya on the personality conflict issue. I have had both good and bad experiences with roommates. Free opinions are always welcome. Any particular areas you recommend as I "wander around?"
Thanks,
KHames

depending on what kind of work you're looking to do, there are a few neighborhoods east of Christiansted that are pretty quiet (except for the roosters). judith's fancy is great and most of the south shore east of the Ha'Penny Beach. hillsides are cooler than being in a valley and electricity on island is very expensive so be wary of a place that needs central air. i think it's like $0.33 per kilowatt hour right now. there are a few neighborhoods around 5 Corners, some are nicer than others. out west, stay in the hills. the neighborhoods along Queen Louise Highway (rt.70) are not the greatest. and the north shore and east end is nice but hard to get anywhere. you'll know what you like, though, when you see it.
good luck and enjoy! try and stop by the Brew Pub on a Tuesday night. it's where you'll get a sense of what people on island are like.
