We are looking for a new lap dog for our family. I have looked at the shelter but didn't see any small dogs. We lost our pomeranian last year. We would like another one or a yorkie or the like. If anyone knows of a local breeder or rescue that offers small dogs for adoption, please respond. I have searched the local paper and internet as well. Thanks.

Have you tried stopping by the vet's offices and asking? they might know of some...and I would think stopping by might be more successful than calling.

This one just arrived at the shelter according to the website for STX Animal shelter.
http://www.stcroixawc.org/adoptions/dogs-available-for-adoption/

Please adopt a stray if you can!!! Let them know what you're looking for and have them call if a small breed comes in. Checking with the vets offices is also a good start.

Please use the Humane Society on STT or STX, or ACC on STJ... There are so many wonderful dogs waiting to find homes and the majority are just destroyed. It's heartbreaking. As a volunteer, I will walk them each for 15 or 20 minutes and the joy I see in their faces brings light to my heart. Is having the exact type of dog as important to you as having a special member of the family that will cherish you more than life itself? The memories will last a lifetime, either way...and saving one of our shelter dogs from euthanasia is a valiant and humane decision, in my book.

The STX Animal Welfare Center is having a Cruzan Carnival tomorrow from 1:00 to 5:00pm and is offering discounted adoptions!

A lot of times the shelter dogs (or cats) are in foster families. If you didn't talk to someone in charge at the shelter about it, pls do, maybe a smaller dog is being fostered.

I just looked on petfinder.com with St Croix's zip. All 3 VI shelters have smaller dogs listed. St Thomas shelter has 2 Shih Tzus. Will try and post the pic, but maybe try there!

If you cut and paste, this should send you there. Here's one of the puppies:
