Dish Network or Direct TV?
I have an 8 foot satellite, wired, just need to know whether to go with Direct tv or Dishnetwork.
(1) Who has the best package deal?
(2) Who has the lowest cost/best equipment?
To the best of my knowledge neither DirecTV or DISH charge for the satellite dish itself but only a minimum for the installation. What you pay for monthly is the programming package you choose and for the receiver rental. Both dishes are very small. An 8' satellite is archaic and probably both worth nothing and not compatible with either of the two options you're considering. However, to answer your question, DISH is by far the best here. DirecTV comes from PR and so do the support personnel so you don't have actually anyone on island to fix any problems you might encounter. A lot of DirecTV is also in Spanish.
If you're on STX call Alan @ Paradise Satellite 340-718-2488. 11 yr. DISH retailer on STX. No need for an 8' dish anymore. The new DISH is 30". I agree w/Old Tart...DirectTV is DirectTV Latin America. ALOT of spanish channels and some of the major networks are not broadcast thru them. Having no on island local support would be a negative for me. If you have problems w/DirecTV, I'm pretty sure you have to wait for someone to come over from Puerto Rico.
Direct TV has local support and installers. I agree though that Dish will be much better. An 8 foot dish would be better for rain fade if you have it and somehere to put it. C-Band dishes pretty much obsolte and don't hink that's the dish he has. Maybe I am wrong.
Direct TV has local support and installers.
Are you sure about that, Ronnie? They were briefly affiliated with Choice (long enough to hook in a bunch of new subscribers with what seemed like a great deal) but not any more and they don't have a local number in either the white or yellow pages. I heard that techs come from PR a couple of days a week but that there's nobody locally available.
Ditto! Dish is the best for HD TV and the best Programming!
Stick with on-island support! se. Paradise, or Glentronics @ 340-778-6505
I quite like the smaller more managable dish (36 ") and have had very little rain fade, even in exteremly heavy downpours unlike to older models that were available years ago. I guess you'd put an 8 ft. dish in your yard and tie it down in event of a strom. you certainly wouldn't want something that big on your roof.
I got my DISH service thru Alan @ paradise satellite/STX as he has very capable installers here in STT.
Actually, turned out to be my next door neighbors!
I quite like the service and dish. No more worries when WAPA goes out and cable TV goes along with it and does not come back on when power in your area restored as they are still off. Service from DISH with any problems or changes has been resolved very quickly and been very few.
I know the guy who went to fix my brother's was living in St Thomas and a local Alana. Hence my statement. It may have changed. Who knows.
+1 for Alan/Paradise Satellite. The best.
Directv have local support , saw two directv vans last week. Sparked my interest may get it just for nfl sunday ticket .
Just an update,i did get the service, the installer were very professional a local guy.
Rumour has it they will be switching to directv usa by year end. Enjoying the nfl,
great to see the games i want, instead of what cable shows.
