HI! I'm moving to STT this week and was just wondering how cell phone service was there. I already have a Verizon plan from Chicago, but am thinking I won't be able to rely on that.
Do any of you veterans have any suggestions as to what company would be the best to go with? Or is it just best to get a land line?

Unless something has changed recently there is no local Verizon coverage-you will constantly be in roaming mode. The local coverage is AT&T(Cingular) or Sprint. Both have parts of the Island without coverage. Land lines however are of poor quality and much less reliable than on the mainland. I have been waiting two months so far to get my line line fixed. Pick your poison.

verizon is on a roaming charge. We have Sprint and there in no roaming. There is coverage in most locations here but it is very limited on the north side. The est side and town has good coverage.
I suggest that you call various carriers and see what they offer. If you are going to only use the phone for island calls there are various plans you can use here.
