Looking to Move to St Thomas USVI late May 2017 to mid July 2017.
Desiring rental of 2br 1 Ba on St Thomas prefer some or all utilities included and furnishings / partially furnished.
Looking for unit with views of water, maybe consider harbor or ocean cliff views as other options.
Would like to aquire unit prior to landing on island for move.

Suggestions appreciated.

Suggest you move here and then look for a rental and not rent sight unseen. Pictures often don't portray the reality and lots of scammers out there on Craig's List, etc. Plus you'll need to figure out commuting for job, kids school, if you have kids, many locations have no regular or $2 safaris transportation.

Late May/June is the beginning of our off season so rates are reduced for vacation rentals and sometimes you can find a good rate for a 1 month stay so you have time to find the right place for your needs instead of getting locked into someplace that you might hate.

Even a weekly rental would give you the opportunity to check things out.
You can also check with Ronnie at Crystal Palace. An excellent host and a fount of knowledge.

Good luck.

I'm actually in the same boat as the OP. Who knows, we could end up on the same plane out of Miami in the near future.

One of the suggestions I have, which is easier for me, as I am interviewing for a job before relocating, is to visit the island first, determine where you will stay, possibly sign the lease in advance, and move after all of that is done. I agree with Alana33 with regards to renting "sight unseen", that's a scam waiting to happen even on the mainland.

If you already have employment, I'd ask the employer if they can point you to a renter's agent on the island as well. From what I can tell, most real estate agents double as renter's agents as it's a twofold win for them. Give the renter's agent your specifications and allow them to find your place before you move.

It's always easier to relocate if you have a specific locate to relocate to. 😀

It's easier too, if you know where you're going to be working, having kids going to school, etc. so you don't end up driving all over the island or from one side to the other, especially in high traffic times.
No matter which island you choose.

There's no bus or public transportation in many locations so one can spend time schlepping from one point to another that gets old, quickly
and completely unnecessary if you choose the right location.
