U.S. Rep. Moran Introduces Bill to Ban Cosmetics Testing on Animals
Everybunny loves U.S. Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia for introducing a bill to ban tests on animals for cosmetics! If the Humane Cosmetics Act passes, cruel cosmetics tests on animals will be banned one year later—and the sale of animal-tested products will be prohibited three years after the bill’s approval.
Since September, more than 72,000 people have contacted their congressional representatives through PETA’s online action alert and urged them to ban tests on animals for cosmetics. Every year, hundreds of thousands of animals are poisoned and killed in cruel tests for cosmetics and personal-care products worldwide.
These archaic tests have been outlawed in the European Union and Israel and stopped in India. But although tests on animals for cosmetics aren’t required in the U.S. and many other countries, they’re still permitted. It’s time for the U.S. and the rest of world to follow suit and ban animal testing for cosmetics, too.
Using an animal to test a product designed for humans makes about as much sense as using a map of Paris to find your way around New York. Not only are animal tests ethically wrong, they’re also scientifically inferior. And consumers have made it clear that they should be illegal, too.
The best way to determine the safety of a cosmetics product or ingredient is through sophisticated non-animal testing methods, which are widely available and are cheaper and more accurate than tests on animals. More than 1,300 companies have already banned product tests on animals and are included in PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies cruelty-free database.
You can help make sure that all cosmetics will soon be cruelty-free by contacting your congressional representatives, industry leaders, and federal regulators in support of the Humane Cosmetics Act. Please, hop to it. It truly can save countless lives.

Please take a moment to let decisionmakers know that no cosmetics product or ingredient is worth inflicting suffering on animals and that America must never allow cruel product tests on animals.
