It's a FB link but it works.
Just curious what y'all think about this.
I'll believe it when I see it built but I'm all for it.
Not a FB participant, how would I find article on project? Name or something please? Thxs.

Yeah FB sux....Not a fan. (td)
not on there either.
It's a link to an Avis article about the William and Punch marina, casino and all exclusive resort that will be out west, right about where Beach Side Cafe was. I would think the link would still work, even if you don't have FB (which btw, I don't understand the hate towards).
I like FB for the ease of quick lil blurbs to fam and friends. But...... they are making it less user friendly every time they update it. I mostly use my iPhone, and the app is so slow and crashes so often that I rarely post much anymore. And i think the ones who don't care for it are still the folks who prefer letters and phone calls to impersonal texts and updates. Can't blame them there, I still enjoy a nice letter or phone call as well.
And I went to the FB page for it. Man are some people very verrrry bitter. EG the one woman who was basicly saying if you aren't a crucian to just shut up. I certainly hope that is the minority opinion in the islands.
That's Eva. She thinks the world owes her something and they should just drop it at the pier and then go away.
Here is a quote from her: "There is plenty of land elsewhere. Basic respect for Crucian people is the understanding that Crucians do not worship tourism, we tolerate it."
What a gem.
The same can be said for any location. We in Vermont tolerate the "Massholes and Spew Yorkers" here. But we wouldn"t thumb our nose at them. Or even make such statements. We know that without these ski bums and leaf peepers VT would be in a much worse economic decline.
Ha, plenty of land elsewhere. True enough, but you would think with the refinery likely never to return that any business willing to invest at this point would be welcomed. Whether it's service jobs or industrial.
It will provide jobs...
It was funny, her main point was fixing the VI before allowing new business to come in. Am I missing something? How can the VI ever move forward if new business isn't moving in? I just can't believe native islanders wouldn't want more jobs available. I can understand the point of not wanting new jobs that mainly go to mainlanders or down islanders, but it can't be that every position is filled by those from off island.
I'm not there so I can't obviously say that with any certainty, but I just can't imagine that's true.
It's an interesting debate on that thread, for sure. A lot of different opinions.
Personally, I hate that idea of a west end super resort.
What we don't need is a super resort where people stay behind the walls and don't experience what we have to offer. What we do need are smaller 10-20 room hotels, locally owned B&B type places, with local mahogany and art decorating it. No real restaurant to speak of maybe a small bar. That would make the guests use or taxi's to eat at our restaurants and shops. Now hears my dreamer part. Have WAPA subsidize the electric for a year so the hotel can get a foot hold.

I'd rather see older places refurbished in an eco way, that isn't reliant on WAPA, but otherwise, I completely agree with you. The beauty of this island can't be appreciated from behind a wall.
Isnt there an old hotel out east....Grapetree or something like that?

Yes and it's slowly being built up, but I think they changed the tax codes and the person who owns it can't continue to rebuild it the way they want to. It would be great to see that bought and rebuilt in an Eco friendly way. Cheney Bay too needs a revamp. Heck, even people I talk to at the Buc say it's in major need of repair and is very unimpressive.
Now if we can just get Delta back here!

Or Southwest to start. Love that airline.
I believe Chenay Bay is in the process of being sold. Plans for major renovation to convert to condos//cottagaes/hotel. Source-The Avis.

*-) It may provide jobs, but for who?
that's always the ploy in order to get local approval for a project, and time and time again the results are negative.....
As for the hotel, I'm not comfortable with what they want to do in terms of building a marina in that location. I'm concerned by runoff coming from the hills, and then adding to it by pushing in the land. We've already seen Frederiksted flooded and water reclaiming the land on its own in recent years. The hotel area may be different than the ballbark area in terms of topography, but they're still less than a mile apart and I think it's a legitimate concern.
is that the flooding from a few years back?
