THE CARIBBEAN! According to "The Huffington Post Travel Writers" The Article is as follows;

"Quote" While the Caribbean can be beautiful, many of the islands are violent and corrupt it is the number 3 vacation place to skip.
The Caribbean you can go sit on a beach and soak up the sun in all kinds of places that are easier to navigate. Sad fact: Most Caribbean islands worth visiting are these days, an expensive and time sucking nightmare to reach. Also: too many of the islands are depressingly violent, pathetically corrupt and/ or hopelessly dysfunctional. For that we have New Orleans here at home, where at least there's a ton of good food. Instead, try just to go to Mexico. Tulum or anywhere in the southern BAJA which is even closer. Both these destinations in Mexico are quite safe, attractive, reasonably easy to get to, fun and often affordable.End of "Quote"

This Article did not name the USVI in particular.however certain things do/did ring a bell.

I don't think the alternatives are the thrust of the article.

Southern Baja is not the drug area or drug war zone. You are thinking of Northern Baja.

well yeah, the carribean is expensive. So what else is new? The article is stupid--just my opinion. Comparing Costa Rica to HI. Really? And I've never considered Chicago or Denver as vacation deistinations.

Agreed Blu. This guy a HACK! We go to islands for the water. Hawaii sucks compared to here. Not nearly as much coral or life in general. MEXICO HAHAHAHAHHAHA! My brother died in Mexico because the idiot doctors there and you want to talk about corrupt?!?!?? ask how much money my parents had to take across the border to bribe the police for return of his BODY. This after the cops stole his wallet. No joke! Last time we went to Cabo it was disgusting, water was soooooooo polluted I was afraid to dive. We also got REALLLYYY sick! People were begging for money and you couldn't walk 2 feet without someone harassing you to buy something. Oh and what about the poor locals that are fenced out of the "tourist" areas that try to sell you stuff with their hands hanging through the fences? Feels like a sad prison movie. Horrible. Some of the places in Mexico may be nice but it's also really expensive.

Total BS. Yea lets all go to Denver for vacation! Laughable. What a moron. People come to the Caribbean for beautiful beaches and warm water. That's what we have. 🙂

I also remember a couple weeks ago we had 7 ships in and 20,000 people visiting. I think this guys all alone out there with his opinion.

I will agree Tulum is beautiful and the locals are amazing! However though I have never been to the islands(August isn't that far off) I'm still super excited to come vvisit and explore, I'm not gonna let some article scare me away! Just wanted to share how I felt about this.

I think most places have their own charm, their own attractions. Even Chicago and Denver. Just depends if you're going for the beaches, or the skiiing, or the museums.

Mexico is on the list. No Caribbean countries are under a warning or alert (Haiti is), but you can look up any island for information.

You do know that August and September are biggest months for hurricanes right? Also HOT and stagnant. We did STX in July and it was doable, heat wise but were from AZ so anything under 118 in aug is OK 😉 if you're from the cold, u may be quite uncomfortable. Make sure your place has AC.
