A letter to my American friends: when did the dream die?
When people realized that they would have to WORK for the dream and that the governments job was not to provide it for them.
A letter to my American friends: when did the dream die?
It started moving downhill with the election of Bill Clinton. People started to notice after NAFTA. It's very hard for our country to recover after President's like Clinton and Obama. Not to mention people like Harry Reed, Nancy Pelosi and Shumer. Not that I believe W and the Republicans are innocent.
Guess you don't count the debacle the Bush administration's created.
Funny how only democratic presidencies don't end in severe debt and recession.
Then electing a an inept racist like trump.
Ye gads!
Y'all are gluttons for punishment.

The recession happened during his administration. He did not CREATE the recession.
Actually, Alana, when I mentioned W, it was a reference to George W. Bush. Yes some of his decisions were problematic as well.
President Bush spent way too much money. President Obama doubled the debt he inherited. Able bodied working age folks in our country need to work, pay taxes and be assured the taxes they pay are being managed in a responsible manner.
45.3 percent of people who qualify to pay taxes in the US don't pay taxes for various reasons (low income, deductions, credits, etc.)
"Just because people don’t pay federal income tax doesn’t mean they don’t pay any tax. In fact, nearly everyone pays something. Three-fifths of those who don’t owe income tax work and thus pay Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes. And almost everyone pays state and local sales taxes, excise taxes, or some other levy."
Without deficit spending throughout the Great Recession, the US could have easily slipped into a Depression. Many monetary strategies for avoiding what was a looming Depression were driven by Ben Bernanke, then head of the Federal Reserve, who was also an economics scholar on the Great Depression of the 1930s.
The US now is at virtual full employment with an unemployment rate of 4.3% (that Trump takes credit for). The issue is really not one of unemployment - or working hard - it's one of low wages that are braced up for millions of hard working Americans by tax credits and SNAP benefits. Wages for many Americans are not high enough to live without these supplements let alone qualify to pay federal income taxes.
That is the troubling legacy left by Obama and is a great challenge for the current administration and all US citizens.
The US deficit is different than the VI deficit. The US government owns the mint.

The recession was a direct result of both Bush's policies, wars, loosening control on banks and financial institutions which left President Obama with a mess to clean up which he did.
He left trump with a robust economy which trump loves to take credit for but hasn't done anything except begin to loosen bank controls, allow fracking waste into clean water, lower pollution standards, deny climate change, wishes to allow companies into our National Parks to deforestation, drill, frack, mines and spew hazardous waste and degrade the environment.
If he cared so much about "beautiful monuments" (confederate ones at any rate), he could protect our natural monuments, parks and resources.
This presidency is a disaster, start to finish, especially when you have a self-serving president who lacks any moral compass and redeeming qualities.
Republicans make a mess. Democrats clean it up.

How did people live before all these massive entitlements? I think living off the hard work of other people and expecting them to suppement your healthcare insurance while they pay an outrageous cost for coverage they don't need is wrong.
People used to look out for their own grandparents and parents, They helped out, without the corruption of government. If your parents or grandparents didn't need your help, it was something to be thankful for, so you spent time with them. I guess the need for these so called safety nets are the result of selfishness and the breakdown of the family unit.
Those shovel ready Obama projects were nothing but corrupt rewards for friends of liberals. I doubt they helped the situation very much.
We live in a world were to many people want to live beyond their means, that is the foundation of most of our problems, along with morality shortcomings.
The current healthcare situation is a debacle created by corporate greed, i dont have the answers, but I know putting it in the hands of goverment is certainly a big mistake. Two term limits of every political office would be a start.
My frail elderly mother lives in an assisted living facility deep in red state country. Because we are good stewards of family finances, she lives in a facility that does not take Medicaid and we pay about $6,000 a month for her care. My older sister is her care giver - though she is unable to physically lift and move my mother (nor emotionally equipped to deal with my mother's dementia full-time). To hire help to care for my mother in her home would have cost $480 a day.
The balance of her children and grandchildren have moved away from the area for greater opportunity.
I have spent time conversing with those hard working aides who tend to my mother for $20 per hour or less in this facility. Black, white or Hispanic, most live in rental properties in marginal neighborhoods. Most have husbands (or wives) that work and at least 2 children. All who work at least 30 hours, get health care insurance from their employer - and most receive SNAP benefits to make ends meet for their families. They will change jobs for a $1/hour increase or less trying to get ahead.
This is a family oriented place, you get to know the workers kids, you see the cars they drive, there is no fat left on the lean.

It is a great thing that you and your siblings look for your Mom. It says something for the quality of people she raised.
Ok we have a smart businessman as President, who has never been particularly conservative. Actually 20 years ago he was a typical Democrat. I believe if the middle of the road Dems would retake their party he would work with them in a heartbeat. Leaving many Republicans standing around in the cold. Changes have to be made to move forward. He has always shown a attitude of comprimise. Its time the media shut up, people calmed down and pressured their officials to get to work.

A letter to my American friends: when did the dream die?
I didn't read the article. But, IMO, the "American Dream" died when our own dark government killed JFK. And, then the NOT great society was ushered in by LBJ.
White House aide: ‘You have no idea how much crazy stuff we kill’
There are now 4 magazine covers that show who Trump is. Choose which you like most, and answer poll
2017/08/19
I thought both the New Yorker and Spiegal covers summed it up best but all 4 were spot on.
I like this quote from the NWO Devil himself.
"If the American people knew what we have done, they would string us up from the lamp posts." ---George H.W. Bush's
He summoned it up quite nicely, I think.

Which aid? This reads like another Enquirer story. No sources.
Isn't DailyKos the Breitbart of the left?
MediaBias says that they have extreme left bias and their factual reporting is mixed.
They are rated exactly the same as Breitbart except left.

It's showing the 4 magazines trump made the covers on.
Now he has "real" covers to display at his various properties instead of the ones he "faked!"
