Sharpton expressed his personal opinion about public monuments not being supported by public funding based upon his families history as slaves in the South Carolina. He further said he had no personal issue with private funding supporting these monuments.

He did not represent THEY (who ever you are referencing) nor say anything about tearing down the Jefferson Memorial.
