Monsanto’s Roundup Found in Animals with Birth Defects

Danish farmer Ib Borup Pederson had reared hogs for decades. So he was alarmed when he observed a growing incidence of malformations and birth defects in his newborn piglets. The deformities included: gaps in piglet’s skulls, deformed bones, missing limbs, and a female piglet with testicles.
Realizing that he had switched the feed three years earlier to Monsanto’s genetically-modified seed and because he had never witnessed such high numbers of birth defects in his piglets before, he suspected that the GM-seed or the glyphosate could be to blame. He had the piglets assessed by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Leipzig, Germany and Hvidsten, Denmark and by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Sadat City University in Egypt (source: Townsend Letter, January 2015).
Glyphosate, a pesticide used in Monsanto’s genetically-modified seed, has also been called the “Darth Vader chemical.” The researchers found glyphosate in the lungs, livers, kidneys, brains, muscles, and gut walls of the piglets. Their findings were published in the journal Environmental and Analytical Toxicology. It was found in the highest concentration in the lungs and hearts of the animals, with lower concentrations in the muscles. The researchers conclude that “further investigations are urgently needed” to determine whether there is a link between the glyphosate concentrations and the birth defects.
In an earlier study in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, researchers identified a link between glyphosate pesticides and lymphoma—a type of cancer of the lymph nodes and lymphatic system. The scientists found that glyphosate exposure doubled an individual’s risk of the cancer.
Glyphosate, also known as Roundup, has been linked to other serious health conditions and environmental degradation.
As far back as 2009, France’s highest court found Monsanto guilty of lying about the safety of Roundup, including falsely advertising it as “biodegradable,” “environmentally-friendly,” and even claiming that it “left the soil clean.”
In an interview, Dr. Stephanie Seneff, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) discussed glyphosate as possibly “the most important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have become prevalent in Westernized societies.”
Glyphosate has been linked to other diseases, including: breast cancer, kidney failure, and celiac disease. I spoke with a manager and requested they stop selling round up in the VI and told him the environmental consequences of its use.
If everybody does the same, maybe they will.

I have broke my self imposed vacation from this website to specifically address this issue. Glyphosate is one of the most widely studied chemical compounds EVER. It has an LD50 less than aspirin, vinegar, and salt. Oh yeah and correlation does not equal causation.

Stephanie Seneff is a computer science researcher. RoundUp has been off patent for over a decade. RoundUp ready seeds do not have RoundUp in them. There is so much misinformation in this article it is laughable. If you want to argue that Monsanto's business practices are idiotic you will have an audience. If you want to talk anti science nonsense you will have to show some REAL information. Just remember, Whole Foods' revenue is nearly identical to Monsanto. They sell "organic" produce which uses MORE pesticides by volume than conventional farming.

Nope. Dosage=poison. Also using Natual News as a reference automatically discounts any argument. There is boatloads of peer reviewed data out there if you look past your woo and get out of falling for the appeal to nature fallacy

It would have continued. I debated jumping in the fray but I cannot freak handle scientific misinformation. Vaccines, GMOs, and chemicals all are my triggers.

First. No human is being reared in a RoundUp formulation. Second it is quite possible the surfactant used is just a "toxic". Guess what organic farmers use when they spray their pesticides (oh and they do.. a lot too). Surfactants.

Thank you for using the "REAL TRUTH" in your argument with the "KIA" (Know It all) of this forum. After nearly 5,000 posts on this page in less than 2 years make her an expert at cutting and pasting all of her propaganda and really nothing else.
Coming from a lifetime Almond and Pomegranate farmer from central California and 1971 Graduate of Cal Poly SLO, your arguments regarding sustainable farming, GMOs, chemicals and vaccines are right on.
I defy anyone to prove that we as the dominate species on this planet can provide nearly 7 billion humans and unnumbered animals with food and or health products using what most Sustainable idealist say they can.

I post things that people may have an interest in.
If you don't like it, don't read it and why do you care how much or how little I post?
Everything, including pesticides, that goes onto plants, soil, etc., especially in our islands, ends up eventually in our water tables and our oceans, here and worldwide.
You can see for yourselves our surrounding waters after heavy rains brown with run-off from the land and the following advisories from DPNR relating to water quality and advising people to stay out of the water. Actually, it doesn't even have to be a heavy rain event for the advisory to be posted.
Why use any harmful pesticide when there are natural alternatives?
We, as the dominant species, are pretty much screwing up the planet.
Glad you're proud of that.
