Interesting article about Miracle Material
Entire article: http://www.thefinancialist.com/miracle-material/
"While the fact that graphene is the most conductive material ever discovered has enormous implications for both gene sequencing and electronics, its transparency and ability to absorb light of nearly any wavelength means it could also be a cheaper, less brittle replacement for the indium-tin-oxide used in plasma display screens and the electrodes in today’s solar panels. In a paper published in the May issue of Science, researchers at the University of Manchester, including the duo that first isolated graphene, demonstrated their ability to build photovoltaic devices that are thin, flexible and highly sensitive by sandwiching transition metals between layers of graphene. As a result of this work, solar film may someday replace solar panels. A solar film would be so thin and pliant that it could coat every external surface of a house, potentially converting any building into its own power plant."
"It’s still too early to tell whether graphene will go down in the history books as a true miracle material that fundamentally changes technology or a buzzword that ultimately proved disappointing. But the possibilities are enticing enough that serious research dollars and some of the best minds in materials science are working feverishly to develop new technologies that can scale commercially. With so much focus on a single material, the next decade of research just might yield some truly revolutionary results."
I was especially thought provoked by the above statement as it translates to "potentially converting any building into its own power plant."
How wonderful that would be for the entire world!
No more WAPAs and dependence on fossil fuels!
