So a firearm is looked at by some as a "fetish toy" ? Now that is really ridiculous.

I noticed that as well.
As a very young boy I was taught a gun was not a toy. My children have all been taught guns are not toys. They are taught to respect them and understand what can and will happen to whatever they are pointed at when they go bang. Some people I believe are never exposed to weapons and therefore think of them as evil things or fetish toys.

I know many I woul consider fetishists with guns. Listen, I'm all for guns. Have away. Just be man or woman enough to say, more guns does not equal less crime, and I feel more powerful when I have a weapon. To many people just aren't honest as to why they have guns. I left 4 back home. No need for hunting rifles here.

more guns does not equal less crime.

that's really never the argument, it's "less gun restrictions equals less crime" and that's debatable; but these islands are the perfect case... the shooting yesterday with the AK47 @ a school kinda shows us what gun prohibition does.......

your argument is pretty flawed from a statistical stand point as well.

for example:
[img] https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src ="https://img.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp-content/uploads/sites/14/2015/10/guncorrelation1.jpg&w=1484[/img"]

The correlation between the homicide rate and Brady score in all 51 jurisdictions is +.032 (on a scale of -1 to +1), which means that states with more gun restrictions on average have very slightly higher homicide rates, though the tendency is so small as to be essentially zero.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/10/06/zero-correlation-between-state-homicide-rate-and-state-gun-laws/

I feel more powerful with shoes on, should I stop wearing shoes? I feel more prepared with a knife I always carry, knives should be illegal because they make me feel more capable? I feel more powerful at my job when I've been trained on a topic I'm working on.. certainly this is irrelevant.....

I really don't think disagreeing or agreeing with you makes one more of a man or a woman.
No, I don't feel more powerful when I have a weapon. I consider it a tool. Just like a knife, screwdriver or wrench. If a weapon makes you feel off balance, I for one am happy you left your 4 back home.

I feel perfectly fine with or without guns. The same cant be said for some. There is no reason to have a .223, 30/30, 30-06, and .338 here. No where to shoot them, nothing to hunt.

No. I wasn't. Still don't see a need. I won't be hunting humans because they want my "stuff" after a devastating storm.

None of my stuff is worth taking a life. It's stuff. Unless you mean the opposite. I need a gun so I can loot more effectively? Now, that may be true

I had to defend against looters. If I didn't have a gun then I would have lost everything, including my livelihood. And I would not have been able to provide food and supplies to the law abiding citizens.

That is what they make insurance for. Nothing material I own is worth killing or being killed

Insurance does not feed people who have had their home destroyed and have no food, water, etc. I was able to provide those things. Insurance was not. Yes, some things ARE worth being killed over. Like helping your fellow man.

My fellow man will be doing what he does under those circumstances, looting. If they want to stop by my house, I will gladly feed them. If your business is providing food and water and insurance doesn't cover inventory this place is more backward than I thought

I understand just fine. I have lived through disasters before. People are the same everywhere. Some want things for free. Some want to be able to profit on tragedy.

Sparty, with all due respect, I concur with CruzanIron in that no, you really don't understand. There's nothing to be gained by a peeing contest about who's gone through what but I can tell you that until you've gone through something even remotely like Hugo and Marilyn here, you simply can't relate. Most of us who've "been there done that" find it difficult to talk about even so many years later and, when asked, rather slough it of in very generalized terms.

Are you the infamous Mall Ninja?

Via rational wiki

"There are many different varieties of mall ninjas, with wide-ranging fixations, but all of them idolize combat while having very little first-hand experience of it. It is entirely possible to be very interested in warfare and weapons whilst knowing their complete reality (viz., if you point a gun/sword/knife/deadly object at a person, you should expect to kill them, and face the moral, psychological, and legal consequences of killing them; also, one can often expect one's opponents in battle to carry weapons), but mall ninjas focus on the honor and glory of warfare, and are characterized with seeing the "glorious" aspect of fighting without acknowledging that they would probably find it terrifying or repugnant if they were dropped in the middle of a real war zone."

I think you have mall ninja and another pejorative term confused.
