If you are thinking about tweeting about clouds, pork, exercise or even Mexico, think again. Doing so may result in a closer look by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
In a story appearing earlier today on the U.K’s Daily Mail website, it was reported that the DHS has been forced to release a list of keywords and phrases it uses to monitor various social networking sites. The list provides a glimpse into what DHS describes as “signs of terrorist or other threats against the U.S.”
The list was posted by the Electronic Privacy Information Center who filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act, before suing to obtain the release of the documents. The documents were part of the department’s 2011 ’Analyst’s Desktop Binder‘ used by workers at their National Operations Center which instructs workers to identify ‘media reports that reflect adversely on DHS and response activities’.

That list is so long, I can't imagine how many people they employ just to sift through the Facebook pages that have those words on it.....

Big brother is getting a little heavy-handed

that's actually old. they have rooms full of machines that listen to every text and call an if enough key words get picked up, you get watched. it's pre 9/11 even.

The NSA has a relatively new high tech center in Utah where every telephone, cellphone, email and text message is filtered by computers looking for nefarious messages and keywords. I've always been very careful about what I post, especially when I'm angry at WAPA or the VI government. A computer somewhere is definitely listening to you at all times. That's the America we live in now but this is nothing compared to what it will be like in another few years.

yes, but the algorithms can only do so much, eventually it hits human eyes & a decision is made (at least... I don't think it's THAT automated yet.... haha)

I've been to the Fusion center in Alaska (where all "internet" traffic was filtered through). very anti 4th amendment... but as it's been said, we'd rather sacrifice liberty for supposed "safety" apparently.

I'm not careful about what I post, I post what ever the hell I want; but there's two things to that,

1) I'm a "nobody" I'm about as important as a speed bump.

2) I'd rather not live in fear, fear is the mind killer (dune anyone?) if the black helicopters are coming, let them; maybe I can get some footage for youtube first and entertain a few dozen people for 20 seconds or so.

I agree LF but as my moniker implies, I'm not a US citizen and as a green card holder can be denied entry when I go to renew. Who know what sort of s**t they'll dig up on me when that time comes.
