I hope you report it.
Any identifying features for your horse, if stolen?
Can you mirco chip a horse?
How can you keep him safe if the thief is determined?
That really is just the worst and I hope he'll be safe from theft.
Glad your wife was home, your dog alerted and you were able to get him back!
Continued Good Luck!

"he" was apparently 3 teenage boys; we are traing the horse to be a trail horse so it's super friendly and dosile (though still a stalion)

the horse thief hanging was a joke, though I think it's still a valid law in texas (or so the rumor goes...)

anyone have a spare 15k for a fense?

edit:

the horse is a "paint" (I wouldn't guess a breed other than to say "island horse" or "mutt" haha,) and very distinct; we just got him so we have not chipped yet, but we will.

Report it? to who? would anyone care? I guess I did report it, right here on this forum!

Amish teens looking for a joy ride? They'd probably ride it hard and ditch it as soon as it threw a shoe. Darn reckless yutes.

Growing up in Texas you take Texas History in 7 th grade. At that time in my life, the law was still on the books, but other laws had made it unenforceable, ergo the reason not to take it off the books.

Report to police.
It can't hurt and then you have a record of the attempted theft, should it happen again. (hopefully not)
Do you have close neighbors that you can set up a neighborhood crime watch?
They police in STT are very helpful to people wishing to do so. Don't know about STX. Again, can't hurt.

Put up a sign saying "horse thieves will be shot on sight" (not that I condone it but make them think twice).

my shotgun has beanbag rounds loaded in it, I absolutely will shoot on sight.

I'm building a horse pen right now so hopefully this won't be an issue in the future; I'm sure it was just a "steal the horse, ride it and let it loose" teenage thing; my wife chasing them down in my truck was good I think.. might show that we aren't easy (or as easy) victims.

(she never actually saw who did it, but the horse was released)

WOW, this is something you don't hear much about these days. I'm glad you got him back safe and sound.

luckily my dogs freaked out and let my wife know to go look.. I told her next time just to let the dogs loose... 330 lbs of south African boerboels would make anyone reconsider horse thievery.

we finished his stall last night so he has a secure place to sleep, the thing that is kind of crazy to me is he was taken in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY,, right off my front lawn like at 11:45.

if it was the group of teenagers that she saw I almost feel obligated to teach them that those types of actions will not serve you well in life; the path that stealing from others sets you on does not go well (unless your rich, then you can become president, or a banker....)

Or a person who owns a horse hahahahahaha. Yeah, I think the dogs could have taught them a valuable lesson for sure. The dogs reminds me of my Step dad buying two Doberman Pinchers back in the early 70's and had them flown in from Germany If I remember after his house was burglarized in TUTU on St. Thomas. The next time they broke in and stole one of the Dobermans hahahahahahahah the dog was later recovered a short distance down the road. The thugs probably realized that they would have to feed the dog so they let him go.

Then my step dad started hooking a live wire to the door knob and glass window frame on the door and a few windows that they had broken into before and had it plugged into a 110 wall outlet. He then threw WET pieces of carpet on the ground by the door and windows. I asked him what the hell he was trying to do kill someone, so he removed the wet carpet. As far as I know, his house didn't broken into again. He was an electrician to boot hahahahahahaha. Oh what fond memories that brings back.

well 120v 20amp circuit wouldn't kill anyone (unless they had a heart condition) but it certainly would surprise them! haha..

My dogs are probably the best guardian breed I've ever seen (and I've been involved in dog breeding for over a decade now) they naturally become guardians and hate strangers with out slow, proper introduction; the Boerboel was bred in south africa to guard livestock from predators and humans & is a very purpose bred dog, they are super athetic yet low energy (so they aren't bouncing off the walls all the time like German Sheppard’s or husky breeds) and they are fiercely loyal to the family they bond with, they see anything smaller than them as an awesome friend and anything approaching a threat as the devil incarnate, since they are a fearful guardian not an aggressive guardian they won't run up and attack people, they will stand their ground and defend their territory.

really amazing amazing dogs, I can't say enough good about them; they do take a strong owner though, they need a clear leader.

Id be more worried about them coming for the dogs. A lot of scumbags who fight dogs.

Most worried about for me: strychnine poisoning. This happened to a friend of mine, and the dog died in front of me. Horrible way to die, but thieves generally have no compassion.

My dogs are a fearful guardian, that means if they don't know you, they think you are bad news & will not trust you for a second.

this is definitely a worry; or anti-freeze... lots of ways to poison dogs unfortunately; I just try to be a positive helpful presence to all those around me and hope for the return, though I'm ready in case the opposite is true.
