Glad Chain Face had people willing to help her. She looks great. In all my years this is the first time I've ever seen a chain around a horses neck. Certainly a lesson learned.

Amazing indeed!
One lucky horse and owner to have the Cruzan Cowgirls come to the rescue. Good ting!

it was tied to a rope that was around it's neck, then to another rope.. because the length of chain between two ropes makes it stronger than just rope... right?

haha, I don't claim to understand the "why" of it.

is that what you named her??

I don't know what the boys call her (before we showed up none of the horses had names, so we at least started that trend) and she's not mine to name..

Anyone seen Chainface after Maria?

Yep, we have been doing rounds out west with volunteer vets from the states, I think we have another one in this afternoon (or maybe tomorrow) and she was one of the horses we first saw last week.

Mostly it's been minor cuts, respiratory issues & heat stress / sunburns that we have seen horses suffering from; and a couple that seem to be immune compromised for some reason, but that's a much smaller number. '

We are still out there working on horses (in fact, more so now that we have zero tourists and no trail to take them on) hopefully we can use this extra attention to fix some issues that have been long standing.

How much livestock do you think was lost on STX during Maria?

Easily 500+; though if you count chickens (especially fighting roosters) that number goes up significantly.

we found piles of dead sheep stuck against a fence on one property and goats on tree's at other property.. the smaller livestock suffered most as it seems the winds were just tossing them around.

very few horse and cattle deaths (the few that did occur were mostly during the "aftermath" not the actual event).

Jen (CruzanCowgirls) is out driving the big yellow truck every day, working (or trying to work with) the ASPCA, local vets and farmers as well as the off island vets that we take to the various areas with horses. We just helped Ms Gear with the dog mercy flight this week that got a LOT of dogs off the island in a chartered plane.

It's been a very very busy time.
