Barilla Pasta Boycott
I get that. Denouncing a group of people and excluding them for yourvdifferences is hateful.
because they do not approve, does not mean they hate.
Maybe gays should also need to wear full black drapes that cover all their skin and faces.
Maybe gays should not be allowed in school - not that we hate them, of course, but our religious texts and leaders just say it should be so.
Maybe driving should not be allowed by gays since it might hurt their ovaries or whatever dark magic they possess down there.
Sound familiar? It's all religious-based "thought" (used lightly) applied to differences among humans - could be women in the middle east, could be gays anywhere else, could be blacks in the early-20th US, but it all sounds a lot like hate to me too.
you are entitled to your opinion as barilla is
I will say it once again. Just because someone disagrees with you is it is not hate. I'm pretty sure most Muslim men do not HATE women. Can religious beliefs be carried too far, Yes. Do all religious people do so, ABSOLUTELY NOT!
i agree with you tottsmom, i have one more thing to say than i am done.
if you take away one persons right to free speech because you dont like it, where will it end? who gets to decide whose speech we dont like and should not hear? who decides what we as a people get to say?
I don't see the problem. The chairman of Barilla has a right to his opinion no matter how unpopular. His customers have a right to disagree with him and boycott his product based on his publicly expressed views.
If the views of the chairman are based on his religious convictions that's fine. If his customers think that views based on the belief in an imaginary sky wizard are hateful and bigoted they have that right also. It's a free country. People express unpopular opinions all of the time, just read a few of the previous threads on this forum.
I often avoid places of business which are adorned with religious icons. These people are delusional, why would I want to give them my business? What I have never understood is why all of these Abrahamic religions are so hung up on the sex lives of their followers. They seem to be totally obsessed with sex, when it's ok, when it's not ok. Who can have sex and when... But violence, they have no problem with violence, just look at any of their holy books. There are so many reasons that god thinks that you should shun or kill people who believe differently than you do. It's really unbelievable, so I don't! 😉
All you need is the ethic of reciprocity. Mythical deities are just a through back to our primitive past. We will outgrow it soon, or kill ourselves fighting holy wars. I hope for the former.
Boycotts are seldom successful or effective.
Boycotts are seldom successful or effective.
Maybe. But they make people feel better, as if they are doing something to fight a situation that they feel is unjust. And they are legal and nonviolent. Very Ghandi-ish.

money is a great way to show how you feel.
