(This is the LONG-TERM OBSERAVTION THREAD for info about your micro-climate in general)

I had this idea where I was going to create a map of STT with all of the microclimates on the island. I got some wonderful feedback and I am hoping to expand upon it. For those of you who live on STT, you are aware that some places are humid while others are dryer. You know that some places are stifling in the summer while others get great trade winds to cool you off a bit. That said, I'm hopeful that each of you can tell me a little about your place or a place that you know well. There's no need to tell me, and everyone who reads this post, where you live. If you are really concerned about privacy, feel free to send me a Private Message. Once I make the map, I will post a link, and I hope for it to grow even more from there. I am going to look into making it work with Google Earth, so everyone should have equal access to it, hopefully with the ability to add to it directly. Thanks to all who decide to help me!

(For more information on the DAILY OBSERVATIONS as opposed to this thread for long-term observations, please see this post: https://www.vimovingcenter.com/talk/read.php?4,80800)

PLEASE POST HERE...

sim: You might save yourself some time if you buy the book "Island Peak to Coral Reef: A Field Guide to the Plant and Marine Communities of the Virgin Islands," by Toni Thomas and Barry Devine. It was published in 2005 by UVI, and has a great deal of information about the various plant communities with wonderful maps of all the Virgin islands. Also gives info about weather, wind, rain, etc. Then you can relax and worry about some other stuff!

The ISBN for the Thomas/Devine book is:ISBN 0-615-12992-7 - this often makes it easier to find and order online.

I had to look it up too.. In brief, it is a nine day prayer (or in simkis case, 6 nine day prayers):). Hope he/she gets his/her wish to bring family to STT where the weather is wonderful no matter which micro-climate you wind up in!

According to Wikepedia:
Novena:
The word Novena is the feminine form of the Medieval Latin word, "novenus", "ninth", which is the ordinal number from novem, nine.

In the Catholic Church, a novena is a devotion consisting of prayer said (most typically) on nine successive days, asking to obtain special graces. These may consist of small prayer books, recitation of the Rosary, or small prayers through the day.

The practice of saying novenas is derived from Scripture. After Jesus' Ascension into heaven, he told his disciples to pray together in the upper room and devote themselves to constant prayer (Acts 1:14). The Apostles, Blessed Virgin Mary, and other followers of Jesus prayed together for nine consecutive days, concluding in the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.

Though the novena is primarily a devotion used by members of the Catholic Church, it has spread to the Orthodox, Anglican, and even some Lutheran churches.
