I have recently been very interested in moving to the Virgin Islands. I have visited a couple times, and I have an Aunt that lives on Water Island, and I absolutely love the area. I have always pictured myself somewhere like this, and I am curious to how hard it would be to make that dream come true.

I am currently finishing my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education here in Delaware, and I was wondering the demand for teachers on the islands? Would it be possible for someone my age (22) to expect to get hired at a school? Also, does anyone know the cheapest (but not trashy) place to live? Like I said I am still young and single, and would be willing to have roommates, what kind of prices am I looking at for an apartment of some sort? I want to make sure I am not being unrealistic, would I be able to find a job and living space to meet my demands?

Thank you to anyone that answers me, the extra information is very appreciated!!!

Hello,

Welcome to the board. You might consider gettng and reading the Settlers Handbook shown at the top of this page.

There are teaching oppurtunities. I don't think your age should be a problem if you have your degree. You might look into some of the following to start your research:

Dept. of Education - Public Schools
http://www.teachislands.vi/

View list of private schools (those with web sites have links) so you can look them up:
https://www.vimovingcenter.com/schools/

There is a home school organization on Water Island if you were interested in working/living there.

There are less expensive and expensive apartments in houses in the same area. You will just have to look around and find something in your budget. You can access our Cost Of Living section for average apartment cost and utilities. At the top of this page click on Home and then you can find Cost of Living.

Thank you very much for the offer...and if I were planning on moving really soon, I would jump on it. But, I really want to finish my degree here, so my date for moving wont be until just about a year from now. I do plan on coming to visit again soon to find out more of what I need to know before moving. Thank you again, any more information would be wonderful!
