Worker's Compensation
This subject has come up in the past but does anyone know if each employer has to carry their own insurance or is it paid by the VI gov? There's conflicting info on Google links and forget about calling the DOL office.
Why would the VI Government make WC contributions on behalf of a private employer?

Each employer pays into the government's Worker's Comp scheme. Injured workers in turn get nothing or are forced to wait for months because the scheme is insolvent and tens of millions in debt to the Federal government, which they will never be able to pay back.
Here is why it is confusing.

One contradicts the other.
Sausage: I didn't read those as conflicting. The "exclusive fund" is the insurance policy purchased by employers.

One says private carriers not allowed while the other says it's government funded. I called the DOL office and the phone rings off the hook until someone answers and the the over paid idiot slams the receiver back down.
Please Google it and see what you can find.
Yes, there are no private carriers. It is a government insurance policy that business owners purchase.
From my experience, an injured worker should not file a complaint claim. WC employees are inept. You the injured person are the document delivery boy. You give up the right to sue the employee for negligence and damages. The Doctors that treat you are owed $$$ for years from WC so your treatment is suspect. They can close your case without notifying you and you never get the full amount of $ while you are injured and recovering.
WC is broken like most of the Vi govt. the govt is designed to employ people not to BLP people.
Well then it looks like the employer is getting sued. This is the second time Underwater Safaris is trying to wiggle their way out of their obligations. They swear the employee never worked there and they don't know what the claimant is talking about. I'm just wondering how they are going to explain the pay stubs and other supporting docs. to the attorney and the civil court.
Apparently there's a new partner that's worse than the scumbag owner. I hope they get bankrupted. That's usually the only way slime like them learn.
Rob Osmun and his wife Kim are running the show at Underwater Safaris for the owner Sean. Rob used to own auto repair shops in the states. Professional slime IMHO. So now someone who works for them was injured and they are trying to get out of it by lying and stating that individual never worked there? What about pay stubs and deductions? How are they going to explain that? In the meantime this person is injured and may not be able to receive care because of these two. Very nice.
Well, here's a review I found on Tripadvisor. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147405-d543612-Reviews-Underwater_Safaris-Charlotte_Amalie_St_Thomas_U_S_Virgin_Islands.html The guest states they were served by the V.I.Marshall back in April. (Not bad but not the best) The ninth review on that page. Everyone should boycott them. Don't recomend them to anyone and don't patronize their dive operation. They're scum. Plain and simple.
