Wireless Hotspots?
Is there any wireless hotspots in and around Christiansted? I'm curious as to how I will aquire internet access once I arrive on the island.
Unless you're on a working vacation and need the internet, the best wireless spots are the beach, the hotel pool, the bar, and any other spot that laptops shouldn't be.
STX doesn't even have Direct TV let alone a common clock. A good week is defined as your cable, phone, and power never going out.
People live and visit STX to detox and rehab themselves from today's world of "need to know everything about nothing right now" mentality.
I say all of this as a reformed "info junkie". Whatever the breaking story was, I had to search everywhere for more details.
STX cured me of that. STX makes you realize that internet access has no effect on the world or your life. If somebody really needed to get in touch with you they would leave you a message...you would check your messages every few days and life goes on. Everybody's not a heart surgeon.
Embrace simplicity and STX will smile back.

There is a luncheon place across the street from the hardware store in Gallows Bay that has wireless internet. I don't remember the name.
I think that is the one that recently sold and is undergoing renovation, to be called Anna's Cafe. It's closed right now.
I heard that Choice was going to be offering about 30 hot-spots all around the island that can be accessed by those already using their service. Also I have found when out and about with my laptop on in my car that there are quite a number of places where someone's business or residence wireless router sends out enough signal for my laptop to pick it up.
Most condos have wireless hotspots. Sugar Beach, Club St. Croix and there is a wireless internet cafe in downtown Christiansted by the Harbor. Most hotels have the hotspots as well.
Thanks everyone for your helpful information.
do you know the name or location of this place?
thoogle,
Ditto and amen to the growing community of reformed net junkies.
Hip hubby and I thought losing access to broadband was going to be the end of the world, particularly as I was still working (by telecommuting) as the director of online communications for my DC-based non-profit when we arrived. Email and iknstant messaging were my existence, along with that perpetual connection to the CNN and CSPAN web sites. Like you, STX cured me of that need for net speed really quickly, and I'm a much saner person for it.
You are a very wise man.
