The National weather service says this:
"A SECOND AND STRONGER LONG PERIOD...NORTHEASTERLY SWELLS WILL
INVADE THE AREA WATERS ON SUNDAY INTO MONDAY AND PEAKING ON TUESDAY.
THESE SWELLS WILL RESULT IN ROUGH AND HAZARDOUS MARINE AND HIGH
SURF CONDITIONS...INCLUDING RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE NORTHWEST
THROUGH NORTHEAST COASTS OF THE LOCAL ISLANDS. THIS COULD BE THE
LARGEST SWELL EVENT FOR THIS YEAR WITH POSSIBLE COASTAL FLOODING."
Wow!!
NEW...VERY LARGE NORTH NORTHEAST SWELLS OF 7 TO POTENTIALLY 10 FEET...WITH
VERY LONG WAVE PERIODS OF 14 TO 16 SECONDS ARE EXPECTED TO INVADE
THE LOCAL WATERS BEGINNING LATE MONDAY OR MONDAY NIGHT...PEAK ON
TUESDAY AND THEN CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST EARLY WEDNESDAY. THESE
SWELLS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE VERY LARGE BREAKING WAVES OF 10 TO 16
FEET OR GREATER AND FREQUENT STRONG RIP CURRENTS...RESULTING IN
EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION...SIMILAR SWELL
EVENTS OF THIS SIZE AND DURATION HAVE PRODUCED SIGNIFICANT COASTAL
FLOODING AND EROSION ALONG PARTS OF THE NORTHERN COAST OF SAINT
CROIX. THIS IS EXPECTED TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SWELL EVENT FOR THEM
SINCE THE SWELL BEGINNING TO GROW SUNDAY NIGHT AND PEAKING ON
TUESDAY WILL LIKELY BE THE LARGEST EVENT THEY HAVE HAD IN THE LAST
6 TO 8 YEARS
WOW! We should have a wave watching party at our house then! We have been watching the Peterborg swells crashing completely over the top, Gorgeous!
