I was wondering if anyone had their dog shipped to the V.I to live?? My dog is my life and I have to have him with me. Is St. Thomas pet friendly enough for us to live comfortably?

Good morning Amber,

Great! Of course bring your life with you. What breed of dog will
be escorting you? I have two collies, hair shaved 🙂 and have
chartered a plane to depart soon. When are you planning on
moving? If the dates work, maybe you could share the ride w/ us.
Email me at puppymom@earthlink.net if your interested in more info.

As a relatively new resident to St. Thomas (coming from California) here are my suggestions to help make your dog's life as comfortable as possible:
1. Use BOTH a tick collar AND Frontline (or similar drops) for tick prevention. My dog has gotten tick-fever twice in one year, the preventive measures must be employed regularly. I.E. monthly.
2. Depending on where you live, keep your dog inside unless supervised. In my neighborhood we have a pack of 5 dogs that carouse the 'hood and terrorize all animal-life.
3. Take pooch out for a swim! We have a few dog-friendly beaches on-island that can help exercise the dog and keep it cool.

Above all, have fun!

try this... apply true spearmint or peppermint essential oil
directly on the tick and in a matter of moments the little rascal
will drop off without harm to your dog. Works every time.
enjoy your day, Cindy

The problem is that we've never found a tick on her! The vet said that ehrlicciosis (sp?) can also be transmitted from mosquitoes. So, we think maybe that is how she contracted it. We have a permanent stock of penicillin in the house for when we see her exhibit the symptoms again. However she got it, it's scary to see the result.

Question Cindy: Did I read correctly that you have chartered a plane to bring the collies down? Wow, that will make their experience so much better...would be kind of cool if you can get a group of dogs to accompany them.

Hi Onik'a,

Tons of info on Ehrlichiosis with Google search. Thanks

Yes, my darling paw people will have a delightful journey to their
new home on St. John. Just returned here to Az. from a quick trip
to make sure the home was ready for them. Freshly cooked
veggie's and brown rice awaits in the freezer for their arrival. O.K.
enough of my drama...
B.J. at Air Florida is sooo kool, apart from take off and landing,
Popcorn and Ollie the Collie are free to roam the plane as they wish.
If anyone is interested in the one way private flight, please email me
directly.....You must have a pet w/ you.
oceans of smiles, Cindy

Please call Air Florida at 954-359-7897.
They charter planes starting at $ 3,950.00 for a nine psgr turbo
to a lear jet for $ 10,000.00
We now have six doggies ( all who love kitty's) aboard the
flight leaving next week. Maybe the date's will work out w/ Seth
for all of you to share a ride. I think he is planning on moving Aug/Sept.
Safe travels, Cindy
