Why you should be careful of news on social media
Early this morning a person posted on Facebook that someone had died and others were injured is car accidents in Red Hook. Nothing in the Source, nothing here, very little on Facebook. Now this on the Source: http://stthomassource.com/content/news/local-news/2015/09/20/three-woman-struck-down-drunk-driver-early-sunday-morning-red-hoo
I find it very disconcerting for people to be discussing the details on the Internet without a concern that they may be wrong. I also find it interesting that the Source "opted not to release the name of the driver."

1. Just as there are instances of the same sort of discussions on this and other forums. Very disconcerting.
2. They may be waiting for the official arrest record to be released ...
Why would they choose not to release the driver's name? I understand not releasing the victims' names.
This is a good example of why I am not a fan of the extremely courteous act of stopping to let someone else go, either car or pedestrian.
Sounds like the women's injuries weren't too bad. I hope not and glad it wasn't worse.
Juanita, if nobody stops, how are people supposed to cross the street?
Just another situation where people violate the law every day.
It sounds like alcohol and the late hour were bigger factors than was the courtesy of letting pedestrians cross the street.
Apparently he was a drunken lawyer. I hope his name will be on the blotter in tomorrow's paper.
Or it might not be. I've never seen the press unanimously band together to withhold the name of an arrestee like this.
No mention in today's paper. Latest on police reports are damage reports up until 4:40 p.m. A damage report was filed at 1:08 a.m. in Red Hook, but no other details.
They announced the name on the radio today. Don't remember what it was.

Darn it, you missed the honor of being the first to post his name! 😀
I heard a portion of a radio broadcast, but the only name I heard was Kevin Jackson who is one of the spokespersons for the police and was quoted in the Source article. It sounded like they were reading the Source article.
Source identified attorney. They hadn't verified it at first report.
"Jackson said the driver of the Nissan Frontier that struck the women refused a breathalyzer, but was nevertheless charged with DUI based upon another test. Jackson said the driver who struck the three is a local attorney. He was identified by Jackson as Gary Garten."
The driver who struck the pedestrians is a local attorney, Garry Garten, according to yesterday's Source.
