Why allow Real Estate companies to post here?

I am still a little new to this board, but the info I have received has been very good from all the agents. They always let me know they are an agent and I think it is fine. IF it really bothers some people, why not just not read the thread?

We too have asked Paulie about the questions on Tuesday and he gave us the same response Betty got. We're pretty much done with it...We went again last night and yea it was packed but same one sided questions, well ok there were a couple 80/90's questions...and I didn't know what that girl was doing on stage!

I see this happen all the time. Where the realtor says to email or pm them if they need more information.

I kinda think it is but I don't think Islander or vinow cares so it is what it is. Just like everything else on island. No point in beating your head against a rock.

Regardless of our "personal" feelings on this, it is a relocation board & real estate/housing is a MAJOR factor, I mean who'd want to move if you have no idea of rental pricing, house values...etc.
What I don't like is someone starting crap & goes to the classified section & starts harassing fellow posters!!! So Baties, your point has been made, you stirred the pot here & until you become board president or board moderator, I suggest we just just IGNORE your cries of fowl! I have no problem with Baties post or the tone in the post. It is what it is. Because it wasn't posted in a manner you desire therefore it is a cry of fowl. Allow posters the opportunity to post in any point they desire. I think the post was playing nice just not what you wanted to read thru your rose colored glasses.

Are you originally from the islands? Or did you *ahem* relocate from somewheres else? Doing so, was a realtor involved?
Would you have benefited in that move should you used this site & a realtor? Or would you just move here site unseen at the word of a supposed local behind a screen name?? Hmmmmm I thinks I could makes a good living renting out a tent in me back yard & claim its an eco-lodge.............

I know I didn't use a realtor to relocate and had no problems. Seriously, I do not know a SINGLE person or friend that used a realtor to relocate. Most people do research, get a temporary place to stay and get a rental. Then after being here a while some buy. Frankly many that move here can not afford the housing market here. Its much higher here for a middle class house then most of the country.

And you don't have freedom of speech on a private message board. Sure you can write whatever you want and it's up to the moderator to let it stand or not. For the last year or so the current moderator has been pretty hands off, before that he/she would constantly delete stuff.

jan hanley was our real estate person back in 2000 when i bought the house,the only reason we picked her was because a long term friend of mine used her to buy her houses down here,she was one of those real estate people that tried like so many of the rest of them here to push out into the "crime free" east end and we finally told her we did not want to live in arizona with the rest of the scared white folk hiding in their houses,we wanted the "real" north shore meaning the area from gentle winds over to carambola,and we chose the house in lavallee because we like lavallee,this board was not around back in the late 90's when we were researching and had we listened to others we would never have known that there is a whole island beyond the east end, so yes while this board is quite useful and the agents full of good info you still need to do your OWN research and driving around.

The 1st time we moved here it was w/out a realtor & it was just a FRIGGIN NIGHTMARE! Not saying everyone will have the same bad experience........but it is a good way to scam someone!
Alot of folks move here & know NO ONE & trusting a faceless screen name isn't always in ones best interest.

Ok maybe the stealing tenant thing was harsh, but the truth isn't always sunshine & lollipops......

We went to Stx to buy a condo after a week visit. It would have been nice to know about this board at that time.
I tried several Realtors. Some would not answer any emails, some would only answer to say they would answer all my questions once I was there. Yes many people will waste their time and never show up.
I did have one who answered a few questions but then went to the when you get here or would not respond.
Finally another Realtor, who only wanted huge money deals , not us, passed my email on to Alexandra. She email me wanting to know if she could be of help.
We had many questions for her, and she always responded, even on weekends. Long story short, we went to STX and met Alexandra and bought our part of Paradise. We have since bought a lot but have decided against building - another story.
Had we known about this board, it would have saved us many hours trying to find out information. I'm sure that we would have ended up using Alexandra since she does give good information on this board. Well probably not, LOL, as I'm the one that informed her of this boards existence.
Some Realtors give good information and that is what this board is all about, IMHO.

Yes moved here and didn't use a realtor. Didn't use one and we are doing okay. Used an attorney to close the deal and am happy. No rentals at the moment. I luv competition & the realtors I know here I like. However, I agree that they should not be allowed FREE advertising and posting of articles to get business.

I believe Batetis can post whatever too. It's a forum for all opinions just not yours alone.

I don't know why you took a mean spirit at me, but for whatever your reasons their yours you own them.

My play nice was in response to his attacks on the classified section on every rental listing..............just because you are leaving island, doesn't mean you need to suddenly decide if a realtor can post or not. If he's upset with the rules being broke, contact the moderator & voice it on "a" forum, not go in & attack EVERY RENTAL LISTING.

this IS, among other things, a relocation board, so if some are relocating, seems housing would be an issue.
