Who owns the Renaissance Carambola?
I have been to many Marriott properties and the Renaissance Carambola doesn't fit the usual style of resort they have. The web site doesn't show much about how many rooms, conference center and the usual resort info. I understand that it is owned by someone else and under temporary management by Marriott's.Anybody know the back story?
Carambola Northwest, LLC
borrowed $15mil from GERS

Keep in mind they just bought the property less than 2 years ago so it's going to be a bit different. I'd say Frenchmen's Reef is a bit different as well but good. I stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms at Carambola last year for a few days and was stunned how nice it was - not what I expected in STX (and for reference I spent over 160 nights at Marriotts last year!)

So is Marriott's just the management company or are they part of the loan?
There's the "traditional" Marriott property site ...
And the specific site for the resort ...
How did you get one of the renovated rooms? Did you just ask when you checked in, or did you have to plan in advance?

When I stayed there in October, 2011, they were no longer putting guests in rooms that were not renovated.
Owners of a property like Carambola can pay Marriott a management fee to use thier brand and systems as long as they maintain a certain level of service and facilities, I believe.
