Hello,
I have been looking on this site for about a month now and are strongly considering moving to one of the islands.
I am considering STT, STJ and STX, all for different reasons, but would like to make a choice soon!
I am planning a visit to come down and see all three islands but I would like to hear some opinions so I can decide where I should spend most of my time.
Please respond with any pros and cons to the different islands, anything pertaining to jobs, the real estate market, crime, personal experience or opinion. Thank you so much, I really appreciate any advice!

Nobody can make that kind of choice for you - you really have to visit & make your own decisions. What I think is a must might be unimportant to you. Some wouldn't think of living anywhere but STJ, for example but it might be too small & expensive for you. Your job prospects might be better on one island than the other. STT might be too busy or STX might not have the right vibe for you.
Read the threads here & post what's important to YOU as far as living here. STT & STJ are just a ferry ride away from each other but you'll probably have to sea plane to STX to check out your possible future home.

I prefer STX because I live here. Others live on and prefer STT. Unless you are VERY wealthy or are planning to have 5 or 6 housemates, I think you can pretty much rule out STJ.
In order to get a feel for all three islands, plan on a PMV or 4 to 6 weeks.

Any newcomer thinking about moving here should read all the way through this board. It is much better then the settler's guide or anything else out there. You will get questions answered that you never thought to ask. Its not a requirement for asking questions on the board its just a good idea if your serious about moving here. 🙂

Thanks for the info. I will check into that post. I have read a ton on this board and I have a good friend that lives on STJ so I have done a lot of research. I am planning on a pmv, I just wanted some advice and personal opinions about the islands.
Anyways, what time of year would you suggest would be best for a pmv?

Any time. It's cheaper in the off-season but if you move down here you'll be here year-round so any time of the year works.

Having spent a day on Water Island recently I'm surprised that no one mentions this island as a possibility for relocation. For certain people it could be the right choice. Very quiet, crime free if you believe the local residents, scenic and real estate prices are much less than STJ.
The downside for most people is that Water Island is so quiet and living there is inconvenient (no stores, bars or restaurants).
