Where to find community classified boards or listings on STT?
Is there a place with rental home listings that only locals could get? A bulletin board or newspaper, etc. Something other than Craigslist or the MLS. Other options and suggestions?
seeya: The Island Trader has some ads. The biggest way people find housing is by driving around and seeing signs. Also, ask everyone you meet. There used to be more physical bulletin boards, for example, there was one at Red Hook Mail Services. Not sure where they are these days...In this era of high technology, St. Thomas is still pretty old school.
I advertised my apt. on:
USVI craigslist
https://virgin.craigslist.org/d/housing/search/hhh
Got plenty of local response and found a long term tenant in 2 days. Certainly there are some scams advertised - absolutely don't send money and just schedule a viewing -- renting anything here sight unseen is Never Recommended anyway.
Simple word of mouth has also worked fine over the decades of home ownership here, but sometimes takes a while. I found putting a sign on the road brought too many unannounced visits and didn't want people I couldn't pre-qualify by phone or email. I rent it unfurnished so really only island residents are generally interested, trying to explain that to folks 'looking' to move to the USVIis difficult - many apts. are one unit under or attached to a private owner occupied home so there is usually a fair amount of landlord/tenant interaction e.g. parking, noise, water usage, roommate issues, maintenance outside, utilities arrangement, stateside visitors and anything else that creates a peaceful home life for both parties.
