What's up with the Helicopter Circling Mid-Island?
doesn't seem to be landing and just going in circles?
Which island? Not that it really matters. Law enforcement helicopters are a regular sight, honing in and hovering over crime scenes and pot plantations ...
Circling helos are quite rare on St. Croix, so, readers not familiar with the U.S. Virgin Islands, pls don't get a wrong impression. You do occasionally hear of a drug eradication search being done with them, but it's not like when I lived in Cleveland in the 90s and had helicopter search lights shining through my yard....
I visit St. Thomas once or twice a month and have never seen a helicopter....
We would watch Coast Gaurd choppers chasing boats up from the BVI at night--our tax dollars at work. Choppers over land -- not so much.
I have been on stx since last october and have never seen them circling around like that. thus the query...
My input was from donkey's years on STT and maybe the situation on STX is different. Maybe contributor "rotorhead" who flies a helicopter on STX will have some input?
It made a couple of passes / circles over Cane Bay area early this pm. I passed it off as the usual search for marijuna plants.

MM, a couple of times a year for the last few years the federal drug interdiction authorities have conducted air reconnaissance with the help of the locals in coordinated operations. Last year they took time out to fly into Country Day School to give a talk about their mission. I visited Artfarm once when their tomato plants came under aerial scrutiny. There is usually at least one member of our local FBI office as well as DEA from PR on the helicopter and, I assume, ICE and the rest are involved with the VIPD on the ground.
As for representing the VI here on the board, some (most) of you should think of spending less time on the computer and more time out in the real world. How could any year-round resident not know about the helicopter surveys? They've been swooping and diving all 3 islands when they're here. You couldn't possibly NOT hear them. It's even been discussed ad nauseum on this board. And the wasp thread went for nearly a whole page before someone correctly identified our most commonplace wasp, the Jack Spaniard for the poor person.

Roto - are you out being naughty again???? 🙂
They should offer the school kids bounty for turning in pot fields. They would find a lot more, a lot quicker. We used to stumble across that stuff here and there all the time as kids.
