What's up with the Daily News?
Maybe its me.......but, it seems like VI Daily News online is getting later and later posting their "Daily News". I usually see the new news posted around 3:00 EDT. But, seems like lately I don't see it until much much later. No big deal. Just wondering. If Mr. Cessna is lurking around the board, he might share some light on the topic? What's up Bill?
I couldn't agree more! Either somebody there is really lazy or JUST MAYBE the powers that be have figured out that SOME PEOPLE are getting the local news from them for free on-line after 3PM without paying...
One might surmise that the Daily News might really WANT both on islanders and off-islanders privy to local news.
I get the New York Times via email - FREE - every day and enjoy it immensely.
But Jeffrey Prosser now controls most of the media in the U.S. Virgin Islands which I personally find most unfortunate.
Have you contacted them to ask why they're a day behind?
Just checked this morning and the new news is posted. But I'm still curious about the late "trend".
And, today......unable to bring up the web site http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/
DNS Server Failure. Could be the network I'm connected to but I don't think so.
As of SAt night and Sun morning, I can't get it either.
Taking STT Resident's suggestions, tried to call VI Daily News though didn't really expect anyone to answer on Sunday. Sent inquiry via email. Will let you know if I get a response.
VI Daily News web site is backup. Though, no new news today as is usual because its Sunday.
The Daily News does not post its edition for the day until late afternoon. The thinking is that if people are able to access the newspaper in the morning on the Internet, then they will not actually buy the newspaper.
I began reporting at the DN in June, and it did not work out. Now I am back in good old NC, and I would suggest to anyone who is considering moving here to think it over very, very carefully before making the move. It is very expensive to move here, and to live here, and also to move back, if it does not work out. I am actually the one who posted the article about culture shock, and truthfully, I never got out of phase one. Of course, I was not here very long, but again, one must consider his or her priorities and realize that while the VI has its good points, the islands are much, much different from the mainland. It is very hard to explain - one must live here to see the nuances.
Best to everyone.
Former Daily News Guy!! Let us hear about your life post St Thomas! Hope all is well with you... 😉
I'll bet you miss the mac and cheese at the hospital, don't you???
Geez, I miss the old days when Ron Dillman and Penny Feurzig were right there.
Just wanted to acknowledge Cessna's contribution while he was on staff at VI Daily News. His articles were well written, objective and a pleasure to read. Bill, if you're out there somewhere reading these posts, best wishes for success!
Thanks very much, FL Barrier Island. I certainly do appreciate your compliment and well wishes. And East Ender, if I had stayed there, I would have eaten that mac and cheese every day, so it's a good thing that I am back home ... wait, I had mac and cheese three times in the past week. Jeez, back to the gym.
Living in the VI was an experience, good and bad, that I will never forget, so either way, it was a good move, in that I learned a lot about a different culture, and I learned about myself as well. Thanks again for the kind words, and as you can see, I still do keep up with the postings, so if anyone has any questions at all - I can say that I am pretty objective - please post them or send via email to billycresenzo@yahoo.com, and I will do my best to answer them.
Take care.
