Whats The Latest On Hovensa Site?
Perhaps just wishful thinking on a slow message board day, but, I've heard rumors from a few sources this week that Exxon Mobil people have been sniffing around the refinery recently. Maybe they are just kicking the tires like the Chinese were, but, it would make sense for an Amercian company that size to be looking at the changing competitive situation in the entire Caribbean basin as it relates to petroleum. A base on St. Croix would make domination of the region easy pickings for a behemoth like Exxon Mobil. Any thoughts?
I read an article about Chevron's MS refinery and thought the industry in general is in such transition, even in the states. Refining margins are shrinking and they are dropping off the grid. Maybe by design but the future is not bright. I included the article if interested.
It seems this refinery has so many obstacles to overcome. Chevron's refinery handles "heavy crude".

I thought refining 'heavy crude' is very expensive and has limited sources? I thought refineries are now moving to light crude? Besides, based on what HOV employees are saying, they are 'cleaning up' the site to a level where, if another refinery is to set shop on it, it will have to start from scratch. And they doubt another refinery will set up shop on it. HOV may rent out part of the facility, maybe, but nothing's cooking that they know of based on the instructions they're getting.
I heard a rumor the other day that Santa Claus was looking into it as a storage facility. Despite global warming it seems that the North Pole is still frigid and getting a little chilly for his old bones and he's looking for a tropical hub so he can flit between the two and soak up a few rays and some rum.

You'd think they'd take the time to spell check the site.
It must be some sort of scam in the making.
Very amusing! HOVENSA lurkers, take this to your corp counsel!
Well, someone brought 1500 people to the island from January to March for the Hovensa turnaround. Here is confirmation that this happened: http://www.targetlogistics.net/turnarounds_case-study.php. I suppose you don't do that unless something is in the works.

Had to laugh when I read this. Do you believe everything that you read on the internet?

Though true, this event is talking about and old previous T/A when the refinery was still in service...
