what's available for internet access on STX
Hi all...moving in on the Dec 15th and would like to arrange internet access. East end apartment has cable tv through Innovation. Please tell me I don't have to go back to dial up!!! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
There's DSL with Innovative which is decent at best. They cost around 49.95 a month. There is also wireless DSL with Choice but I believe they're around $100 a month. There's another DSL company called "Broadband VI". Their profile is here http://www.onepaper.com/stcroixvi/?v=d&i=&s=News:Local&p=1105688609
Does the Sprint internet data card that you slip into the laptop work in STX or STT?
Thanks DL for the reply. I like the Choise wireless option but doesn't appear to cover much of the Eastend. The profile on the founder of "Broadband VI" was interesting. I'll have to give them a call and see if it's available where I'll be living.
He lives out on the East End. He is offering service at the Reef and I believe Villa Madeline as well as Cotton Valley. Service is dependent on line of site to one of his towers.
Send him an e-mail. He is pretty good about responding. Might take a day or two.
His rates are very good for 192K service which is about as much as an individual can afford.
If you are used to 6mb speed on a cable modem it isn't going to happen in the VI.

Since our local phone service is still (no phone since May) not working, we are able to use our Sprint service to connect to the internet. We purchased Future Dial Suite at Radio Shack and are able to connect. Don't forget that Sprint has limited service on the east end of STX.
