If anyone has any suggestions or ideas it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

We have a 2003 White FORD Focus with an engine that appears to be ceased. (STX) It has been a great little island vehicle as there really wasn't wrong with it until this. We really do not want to put the money into repairs as we do have another vehicle, but we have no idea how to get rid of it.

I was hoping someone on here would know who or where to call?

Thank you!

I believe one or more of the high schools on STX has a auto repair education component. You might call either Complex or Central to see if you can donate it.

Be careful if you sell it , even if you sell it for parts.

The island laws have an abandon vehicle program . If the vehicle is found abandon, the police will tag it to give the owners the opportunity to remove it. After a few days the police return, if the vehicle remains, the police have it towed.

The way I understand the program by reading about it in the papers, the cost for the above process is the LAST registered owner, and it will be several hundreth dollars, if not more.

I would suggest you check with the registry on how to end the registration and insure however you sell or dispose of the vehicle, you cover yourself and you don't get a bill later.

And lastly, after you check with the registry, don't give up that the car has no value. Depending on the condition, you should be able to get several hunderth dollars for it. The focus is a popular car and car has value to junkyard for parts and or someone fixing it up.

However, Linda J's idea might also have more value. If you can donate it, you could be eligible for a tax break , if the organization is a non profit and they fix it up and sell it. And of course, no dollar value matches the feeling you get when you donate and you know your helping a good cause.

Good Luck

I have to agree with the idea to donate. Scrap metal prices are at all time highs. Those who take donated cars, even dead ones, can really benefit. I think I heard an ad on the radio last week soliciting for donations of cars. Can't remember details but if I hear again will post.
