Is it a bed and breakfast? Some lucky sap's abode? It's lovely!

I'm pretty sure it's a private residence.

Willie was his father, and his wish was to retire to St Croix but never had the opportunity. Hence the name Willie's Wish.

On STX. On the north shore road just west of Cane Bay. We wish too, every time we drive by.

Interesting story. I had always assumed it was connected to the Wills Bay Estate above Carambola, and next to Sweet Bottom.
"Wills" Bay is the old name for what is now know as "Davis Bay" at Carambola, and stretching west.
Wills and Wells were anglicizations of the name given that stretch by the french: "Vielles" Bay...meaning Old Woman Bay.

Anybody know where the name DAVIS came from?
It doesn't appear in the records prior to about 1950.

It first appears as the name for the beach, and then seems to have also become the name for the bay in the last 50 years.

I've been eyeing Willie's Wish real estate listings, as it's on the market currently. Imagine my surprise to find a forum thread from so far back!

That property has been listed several times in the past few years. Not sure if it's been bought and sold repeatedly, or just still trying to get sold by the same owner all these years. I know the property directly across the street (the waterfront parcel) is part of the deal.
It is a beauty.

Wow! Looks really nice! I wonder why no one has snapped up that property?

My wife and I happen to know the owner and his wife as we met them many years ago. They have not lived full time on STX for a few years. They moved back to the states and now I think they live in Panama. The owners wife is a flight attendant for a major U.S. airline. They come back to STX from time to time. The owner of the property has been trying to sell this home for quite some time & I am fairly sure the reason it has not sold is the asking price. I think he's reduced the price a couple times but not 100% sure.

Asking price history:

DATE EVENT PRICE $/SQFT SOURCE
06/22/15 Price change $799,000-10.2% $264 --
12/31/13 Price change $890,000-10.1% $294 --
04/20/13 Price change $990,000-11.2% $327 --
09/14/12 Listed for sale $1,115,000

Seems like a bargain now!

Actually, that's not a bad price. On STT, it would be more.
I'd imagine it would depend on the amount of traffic on the road between beach, home and proximity to neighbors, if any.
Nice pool, grounds, interior and having a well is a plus tho their choice of having a central AC system is interesting.
No pics of upstairs master bedroom which is always a plus on a listing.

crazy good shore diving right in front of this property - easy entry and the wall drop off is quite close.

You guys are realllllly tempting me!! 🙂

Seriously though, I fell in love with this place. It really speaks to my southern roots. It may need a bit of updating from what I can gather from photos (bathrooms mostly) and can't tell about the room sizes, but I may very well see if we can arrange a visit when we are there in Feb.

Unless one of you has made a deal on it before then, now that I've let the cat out of the bag! LOL
It does seem like it's well-priced for sure, and that beach/Wall access is pretty amazing under $1M.

I thought master bathroom could use some updating as well as.
Thanks Pdmargie for posting the vrbo llink.
I wondered about the ceiling height and size of master bedroom.
Pictures can be deceiving so best to see in person.
Always have a home inspection if you've decided to make an offer.

Master bath is a complete gut as is kitchen for me. That tile is awful IMO. I do like the house design and porch. It is a lovely property that would need $100k in updates for me
