What is the USVI customs tax on Japanese cars?
Just shipped in from Miami my Mitzubishi and wanted to know what the custom tax is for it. Thanks
Check the VIN. If it begins with 1-4 its a domestic vehicle and it will not have any import tax......Now, the road tax is another issue....

Customs tax in 2007 was 5% of the value of the car. Whether that percentage of 5% has changed or not, I do not know. When you shipped your vehicle there should have been a place on the shipment form that required you state the value of your vehicle. The road tax as stated by jay is another one time tax you have to pay upon arrival of the vehicle. I think that was also 5%. This road tax is based on the vehicle's weight.

It should be 3.6%, or thereabout ,of the value. Not 5%. The total imprt duty on a car or anything actually is 6%. I think since 2.4% is already paid when the car came form Japan, you pay the difference of 3.6%. Now if the car is made in Canada or Mexico, then it's 6%.
Call the USVI customers department. They may know what the costs are, as they are going to charge you.
Also, your shipper may have documents that define the costs.

Bild, do you mean US Customs and Border Protection, if not what is the department you are talking about? What Ronnie said is right also. The first couple of numbers of your VIN will tell you were it was made. Just google it.
Last year, March 2010, I think we paid 6% of blue book value on a Suzuki motorcycle
