What is on fire on STT?
I noticed a huge column of black smoke coming from what I believe is the eastern end of St. Thomas on my way into Cruz Bay this morning. What is going on over there? I hope everything is okay!
Bovoni dump caught fire after an explosion was heard. All fire equipment from the island is fighting it now, even the National Guard is helping. They think it may be tires or methane. Not sure as of now. Police are quarantining from Nadir to Frenchman's Reef and evacuation is being considered if the winds change. If you leave the area or try to re-enter you will be denied access.
Wow. The black smoke sure didn't look pretty, so I imagined it probably wasn't very good news. Thanks for filling me in!
Check the "Weather" post I put up this morning...it has a pic of the smoke...
Thanks Marty!
where do we check it?
nevermind
I just read the report that the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry had on the Bovoni Dump. It was labeled as apublic health hazard. Quite a bit of scary information in that report. I found it by googling "Bovoni Fire".
No more new smoke, so it appears to be out at this time.
I drove past there about 5:00 PM so you can drive there now.
