Taco Bell.

Jaccar has a fantastic product. They could use some better marketing and the shop could use some aesthetic help, but the sorbets, etc. are wonderful.

Peachy - the comments in your posts indicate you have a good attitude and good business & common sense. That will go a long way toward being successful. Use your PMV time wisely and, if you do choose to relocate, research your planned businesses very carefully as, like others have said, doing business in the Caribbean presents a lot of challenges. You are fortunate you have your internet companies that will provide an income streams while you research business. That gives you a cushion many others don't have.

Good luck following your dream. I wish you success.

Thanks for the positive words! Looking forward to our PMV(s), hope to learn as much as possible. Learning business climate is the hardest part of moving to a new area.

Everyone has said they love the product. The other things make me understand a little more as to why they are only asking $19k for the business. Seemed a little low, but if marketing is not great, they probably don't have amazing sales even with rave reviews.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what company provides the school portraits in the area?

IMO, Jaccar's location is poor. I was on STX for a day and it was confusing to find it. They need to be on the side where the restaurant is.

Oh man! If you want bagels, get out to TLC (formerly Good Spirits by the Reef condos)! Tess is doing amazing things with dough out there!

Agree with that. I've seen the sidewalk sign several times going to the cantina and never have seen Jaccar's.

How long has TLC been there? I think Good Spirits was closed last we were by the Reef condos.

there have been 2 ice cream places near christiansted before. one was open for a very short period of time, maybe 6 months. same strip as stop and shop. the other one closed a long time ago. on one of the corners where the by pass is.

jaccar is on the same back side as coldwell banker,. a very quiet spot .

someone had a specialty meat store-did not even last 1 year.

There is a woman who has been the go to person for STX school portraits for several years. I can't remember her name but she certainly has the market locked up. I've never heard of anyone else but her doing it.

Thanks for the input. It is always hard to tell why businesses close with out having first hand knowledge. I've experienced businesses close, and then another one will open doing the same thing and flourish for years. It could be a combination of many things.

This board is very helpful, everyone has a different perspective.

Thank you! I ran a school portrait business for about 5 years here in the states, but the competition from the big companies wiped us out. (They had the ability to price much much lower) If it is just a local person/company handling it there, I wouldn't want to encroach. I'm not going to be the jerk that shuts people down.

I would like to relocate one of my companies but I don't think motor coaches would be a good fit on the island.

This could be the perfect business opportunity!

Upfront capital: low
Scalability: great
Demand for the service: huge

Speaking of goats, I always wonder why someone isn't making local goat cheese...

I don't think there are enough goats on any VI that could produce enough goats' milk for industry.

They are producing it in Grenada. Delicious!

St Croix cows are in big demand and the university provides support.
