I was amazed too that it was Arizona. I always imagined it to be a dry, desolate desert, like something on a Western movie. Maybe it is similar to living in Las Vegas, with the mountains in one direction and the ocean in the other, but those kind of distances are a bit too much for me. When I was in STX, I remember saving my trips to Fredriksted for my days off because it was "all the way out west"!
Sabrina, lol! I hear you.. I never go to Christiansted unless I have a whole bunch of errands to run. When it's all freeway, I guess it's different... we could get to Rocky Point, Mexico in a few hours, up to Flagstaff in about two hours, less than that for the pretty area of Sedona or Jerome, AZ. Phoenix is a desert, but we took a LOT of weekend road trips. Back then, it wasn't unusual for us to drive two hours to go to someone's house for a party. Here, I can't stand to go further than plaza West. 🙂
and back to the topic "what do you miss" ... I forgot to mention one thing that I miss oh so much...
Long hot showers with water that doesn't just tip-ee-toe on your hair... water in the shower that doesn't just 'whisper' a rinse ...
I miss water that MOVES, water that WHOOSHEES, water that RINSES... Water Water Water !!!
Shave your legs !!! , wash !!! , rinse !!! , REPEAT !!!
Yes, I do miss that !
I know what you mean Suzette. I am very lucky to have a hugh cistern and good water pressure, but still feel a need to conserve. My personal luxury is a tub bath after it rains.
Island Hops - I usually find the tabouli mix next to the salad dressings at the Plaza Extra on St Thomas. But, believe it or not Gourmet Gallery is usually cheaper. The Fruit Bowl also used to carry it, but I haven't looked there for it in awhile.
Island Joan - GOOD NEWS! You can get your beloved Tastykakes online at netrition.com. The shipping is a little bit expensive, but I just buy a month's worth and put them in the freezer. They have a new chocolate chip cookie bar...yummy.
I read these complaints and am shocked! But then I remember the fallen nature of man and understand the human condition is one of constant complaining. Heck, even the children of Israel longed for the land of Egypt and slavery after God had delivered them. As I have stated on this message board before... Any of you blessed folks down there wanna trade for my four bedroom house, government (no lay-off) job, American dream.. and the wonders of living in Atlanta ...including all the supermarkets and junk food you can stuff in your mouth... just give me a call.. Once I am down there I will remember this life up here for maybe a nano-second ( if that long) while I sip a cold one on Jost Van Dyke beach. And yes, (Trade) I am also complaining ! Luve you all!

i for one am not complaining, these are just things that i miss. i dont think anyone is really complaining. i like living here and usually when we who live here go back to the states we can partake of those things we miss. ill take your government job but not atlanta or suburbia or crowds or traffic or people in a hurry or the violence of the big cities and did i mention traffic??i do appreciate the offer.
No complaints agreed!
These are a few of our favorite things we "miss".
Just like when I lived in GA.............I missed things I could only get in Ohio..Mike Sells potato chips & Esther Price Candies..especially the choc covered strawberries!!! Did it mean I wanted to go back just for those reasons alone.......nay!
We've all sacrificed something to live here, Trade you???? Nay again! Tho we miss many things of comfort, nothing can replace the island life. (at least for me).
And yes, (Trade) I am also complaining !
Huh? What did I say on this thread other than what I missed?
This thread isn't about COMPLAINTS, it is about things we MISS. There's a huge difference.
Trade with you for a house in Atlanta ? Never !
For one thing, Georgia is very humid, and the sheets wouldn't be DRY and CRISP there either !
😀
Trade,
She meant trade places with Neal. LOL
neal just to let you know i was not being sarcastic, i really will take your job
I miss self check-outs....and using a credit card at the pump....basically efficiency

Magazine subscriptions. Just doesn't work here! They arrive way too late, plus magazines are more expensive here, on the shelf.
Mark825 - if you are on STX then you are in luck. There is a new Vietnamese &, Thai restaurant opening downtown next month.
juanitta, yes the magazines do arrive about 3 weeks late, still better than paying 6 bucks a magazine. the only one i really had a problem with was people and i just stopped getting it because of the problems. there used to be a site called readallaboutit.biz where you could buy single issue mags but it does not seem to be up anymore.
Internet Jukeboxes 🙂
