Marty, man, sorry to hear about that. I hate when one bad apple shows their ugly skin. Please don't let these low lifes change the way you see the world. I love to see people who are constantly looking for ways to help others. It was great that you held up your end of the true human partnership equation. Please take some comfort in knowing that you have the right way of seeing the world, and will be much happier (despite painful setbacks like this); and they have a very distorted outlook, and the chances that they go through the rest of their lives painlessly is doubtful.

Marty, I'm really sorry to hear about that. It sounds like this guy is a "charming" sociopath. It's one thing to be selfish and self-centered--it's another thing to have a complete and total disregard for other human beings.

Just wondering, ever mentioned this board to this vermin and do you think he might read it?

I only found 5 or so posts by that person on the Classifieds. He was selling scooters. How did he have scooters to sell if he just got here? You better change the locks on your place if you gave him keys. You sure learned an expensive lesson. Sorry.

You should post their last names so we can avoid these people on the island. There are alot of jeff and mikes here. I doublt they will use there vinow id name when we met them in real life.

we are not crooks. You are only hearing one side of the story, remember that. Marty did get screwed over on his rent. Marty just assoumed that we are not going to pay. We like Marty. He was very good to us. We just ran out of cash.He will get paid. As for his 12,000 dollar sound system. He still has it in his apartment. Please feel free to check. I'm not a theif. Pluss, what would I do with those big ass speakers? Drive them away on my scooter? Marty just got upset and wanted to get back at us. I can understand why he's upset. We left his apartment a bit messy, lets face it, his place wasn't that clean to begin with. We will make things right with marty. This is what he deserves.

Whalegs you have got alot of nerve. People on this board know each other in real life. Marty has been here a long time and has an excellent reputation. No one is going to believe you over him.

Why would you not tell someone you had run out of cash who had been good to you and try to make it right. What kind of scum just runs out. Why would you leave a place messy when someone took you in to their home. You should have cleaned it even if it was messy to begin with. People have no class and think everyone else is an idiot these days.

Marty, Please post these loosers real names so no one else on island gets taken advantage of.

Whalegs, you'll go a long ways towards restoring your reputation if you do make things right. I'd like to think this was just youthful poor judgment. The fact that you came forward and admitted your mistakes, starts you on the right path... please do the right thing, now.

And for the future, I'd suggest that:
- you learn from this mistake (don't beat yourself up... figure out the good, bad and ugly)
- learn from the good that Marty extended (doesn't the spirit of giving and caring deserve better respect than you gave it?)
- think about partnering with your fellow humans - you'll be surprised at how much easier life is

Another good lesson that you can't believe everything or everyone on the internet. I learned as a small child to be careful of strangers.

Thanks for the support, everyone. No need to worry about them now, as they are for sure off island. A police friend found the record of their two airplane tix at the airport (traveling on different days, which I found odd). They bought scooters almost immediately upon arrival, from someone on STJ, and I know they put those up for sale soon after getting them to STT (of course, asking a much higher price than they paid...bought 'em for $900 each and then asked for $1,200 each), so I assume they must have sold them, as they aren't here...but the scooter they were going to 'fix' is still on my porch in pieces. But, ya know what really burns me? I talked to him on the phone the night BEFORE I came home! Mike was already off island, but Jeff didn't say a word about them leaving island....he said they found a place and could move in on the 18th, could they stay until then? Of course I said they could, I was clueless at the time. I mean, I thought they were both gracious, polite, grateful men....can't believe my 'radar' didn't go off...I must be getting old....

They have now both contacted me via e-mail after me sending them hate mail, PM's and posting this on the board. And they are both claiming innocence and pledging to 'make it right'...shah, right! Like I'm gonna believe THAT! Jeff is now saying he left the house 20 minutes before I got home, so how could he have stolen anything...uhhh, OK, how would he have any idea what time I got home if he left for the airport at 11??? I had a flight over from STX at 11:45....but I went straight to work upon arrival and I didn't get to my place until after 4! Sheesh, these criminals try to cover all their bases, don't they? Maybe that's why they left the key on the counter and the door unlocked...who knows why these people do what they do...

Islander, since they are no threat to anyone here now, can you remove this entire thread? I just want to forget about it and move on...good news about the HT, though...my renter's insurance will cover a portion of it. Thank God I had the foresight to get that! Best $275 I have spent (but I'll bet Guardian is a little suspicious of me now...I only had the policy for a few months!)

Damn! I typed a whole page full of stuff and now it's lost...dunno what happened there....suffice to say, Tippi, they are gone.....The Police told me that they have verification that the tickets were used, so they are off island....and warrants have been posted in their respective States...Karma will catch 'em!
