Dear there,

I just booked a vacation package and realized that there might be hurricanes in August. We will be there from 08/10-15. Could you please let me know how much rain that we may get and is the chance of run into a hurricane high?

Thanks,

Caroline

It's hurricane season. It just depens on the storms that develop. I don't think we got a lot of rain last August....

We haven't had a hurricane since I've been here. The whole idea is to avoid them....the weather should be fine in August. If a hurricane is developing you would probably choose to change your vacation

No one can tell you now if a hurricane will form in August and if one does form whether or not it will track anywhere near the USVI during the peiod you are planning your vacation is anybody's guess. The truth is you will only get about a 4 or 5 day warning and even that is "iffy". Hurricanes have a mind of their own.

If there's no storm in the area your weather should be good. If there is a major storm, they typically pass in about 24 hours but the after effects (downed trees, loss of power, flooding, high surf, etc.) can last from hours to weeks. Consider purchasing trip insurance that will reimburse you if you have to cancel because of a storm - read the fine print as policies vary greatly.

Chances are there won't be a hurricane or even a tropical storm, but it's possible. Otherwise, August is a dry month. You'll have the island more to yourself since you'll be here well before the tourist season. Enjoy!

I was struck by a radioactive hurricane and it turned my body into a quivering mass of hurricane power...(scary stuff) (sort of like arachnid.man...) As most of you know, hurricanes do not attack the Virgin Islands every year. I was able to avoid Mr Hugo in 1989 and Ms marilyn. I was however pushed around by Mr (wrong way) Lenny. BUT who knows what will happen in the future??

August is a very good month....

September/October has more possible threat....
