We are on STX and settling in !!
Yes, we have made it to STX. Our condo closed 2 weeks ago today and we have been VERY busy everyday cleaning, painting and unpacking. We have bought a car ('97 Jeep Cherokee) and Mike (twindomes) had bugun to look for a job. First impressions in general....Friendly, small town atmosphere. So, all is well; the final move of actually "livin' our dream" was much less anxiety than all the pre-move worryings.:-)
Thanks to all on this board who helped make this move easier for us.
Wow, Great for you folks to make it to STX.It will be a couple more months before I hope to start construction on my dome homes complex. We are one lot too close to the ocean because we now have to go through the CZM group which is not all bad as they are important to the community. Then come normal permits (EPA,plumb, elect etc) and I still wait for my dome plans(0n order) to be reblue printed and get an engineer stamp. My airforms for the domes are ordered but will take many weeks to complete. The goal is for an early Nov. start. But alas island time will have to be incorporated too. Still, a March competion of construction is still a hopeful goal. Once done we may try to work out an open house for the interested, and share what costs were involved (unknown variables for sq ft costs now). I am building by owner. The complex is a triple dome 1709 sq ft 2 bath, 4 bedroom home with a 490 sq ft mini one bedroom dome for my mom/or gardner/caretaker guests etc.
I am still trying to understand where and how you put the cistern in these domes.
Congrats to you all for getting started on livin' your dreams!! Since living through the hurricanes that went across us in Florida last year, I have been looking into the dome homes. Mostly because I want to move to St. Croix, but my husband says he won't move into the path of hurricane season without being in a Hurrican proof home! I was wondering if you know of any domehomes in the areas hit by Katrina and if there has been word or pics of how it weathered the storm?
Thanks, Kat
The cistern is planned for north side of the dome but not under. I do not know of results of Katrina area domes but the one in Pensicola Fla., hit by Ivan lost its porch and took on 6 feet of ocean surge. NBC TV crew slept inside as they felt so safe. The dome stayed in place.
Hi!
Please post pictures as construction takes place. We hope to be moving to St. Croix within the next two years...sooner on my time table! We definitely have decided on a dome home and this sounds very exciting! Let us know where you are building. Good luck and God Speed!

What do you project the cost per sq. ft to be?
Square ft costs are still unknown as reason why was listed in previous message on this thread. Chasity , Thankyou for blessing. Location will be on Mt.Fancy overlooking Great Pond Bay.
Hi Ted...Just saw your post and wanted to let you know we are building an American Ingenuity Dome Home in the Union/Mt. Washington area of St. Croix in Jan/06. Not as large as yours, just a single dome with loft and a small inground pool. Our per square ft. cost will be around $175. We'll have to compare notes! Keep me updated on your progress.
My wife and I are looking into Dome homes and moving to St. Croix. We just subsribed to the Tradewinds Newspaper. The Dome in Pensacola (near my hometown) has faired the recent storms well. Please keep us posted as you progress. This is a great website, thanks all.
