We are moving to STX at the end of September.
We are relocating to STX at the end of the month. There is a place on Little Hospital Street that we are looking at and are starting to become very interested in. Can someone/anyone give us some feed back of that area? Is it a safe area? An area we should avoid? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Ooooooo, lucky you.
Not familiar with the area but obviously it's in town. My bigger concern is that I'm guessing you don't yet have a job lined up and maybe haven't even visited the island? If either or both is so, you are very ill-advised to even consider renting anything sight unseen and even more so if you don't yet know where exactly you'll be working. Far more sensible to stay in a short term hotel/B&B until you get to know your way around. Good luck.
We are in the works of getting a job lined up- putting together a business plan and such for a Paddle Board shop in the area. I have been in talks with the manager of You are Here, who manages the restaurant my brother-in-law owns. We are seeing if he has a place for us to crash for a few nights till we are able to find a place to call home.
It depends on where on Little Hospital street. I used to live just around the corner and always felt safe, however, that was over 11 years ago. I would exercise caution when living in town and not make yourself a target. Don't walk home late &/or drunk, don't wear lots of expensive jewelry, don't "flash cash" around, etc.
where exactly is little hospital street, is that near the dance studio?
Advise a pre- move visit before making a commitment.
Personal experience is the pics online for rental lies. Last month looked at a lot of rentals. Place said washer and dryer, and pic of flat screen in living room, get there completely different furniture and little old school tv with washer and dryer gone. Even from realitor websites pics are way off.
So, true about realtor sites. I leased a house online while still in states and from pictures thought it would be very manageable! But, when I got there it actually had two large rooms not shown in picture of what seemed probably a 200 sq ft house and it was over4k sq ft and a yard more than we would ever want or need.
Later became extremely sick from neglect of landlord not fixing leaks and it took over 4 months and many CT scans, blood work and finally a mold test to find that the mold had gotten into my lungs and I was unable to breathe well and had to go on two different inhalers. Doc would not treat me until I got out of the house! Been out three weeks now and on meds for mold infection in lungs and am now able to walk up more than just 4 steps without stopping and waiting til I could tackle rest! Landlord even let me off of 8 months of our 18 month lease AND is returning my security deposit!
My suggestion, if possibly looking to work downtown, is to stay at The Pink Fancy. It's downtown and secure and very reasonable. Just stay there til you find something for long term, or find you cannot get work here and decide to go back home and are still having to pay a lease here!
It is in Christiansted's east end after New Street and Green Street when going east on Hospital Street.
Thank you to the responses- i will take it all into consideration. Thank you.
It is NEVER a good idea to commit to a rental in the USVI until you have seen it --- NEVER!!
Oh, I wasnt committing to anything, I am just trying to ask on how the area/street is. As stated before, nothing is as it is seen in the pictures. 🙂
rosesisland, is the Pink Fancy still open? They don't advertise anymore.
The Pink Fancy has not been open for years.
Thanks vicanuck, I was pretty sure they had closed down years ago
The Pink Fancy is not closed. It is just no longer a hotel. It is a private establishment that rents apartments.
