Any recommendations on a system? I can install, but looking for something to take sediment out, kill any bacteria, etc. I know there were posts in the past, but they are somewhat old, just seeing if anyone has had a great experience with a particular unit.

Thanks,
Dave

I use this, at home and at the shop. You'd have to add UV I guess for bacteria, but this does a good job on sediment. Gallows Bay Hardware carries them and keeps different filters on hand.

Thanks, I do have that already. I just wanted to get something that will allow me to safely drink the water. I know they say that you can drink it, but last time I was there, I did seem to get a little stomach thing going on, not sure if it was due to the hurricane water that we in my cistern, but it was pretty clear with a little sediment on the bottom (more than before though). So while doing some repairs again when I come down in 6 weeks, thought I might put a new unit on as well. Thanks again.

We never had any sort of filtration or sanitation on our cistern system up until this year. Now we have a Sanitron UV unit with three stage carbon filters. The Sanitron systems and such can be purchased locally at Tropical Plumbing.

My deal was a swap/barter with a local company so no money changed hands. But, I put in a larger Sanitron because we do AirBNB and have an apartment that we use for friends and family (and FEMA).

I'll get the model number of the Sanitron and post it tomorrow.

I've got the system on display at Gallows Bay (even though the display unit is plumbed incorrectly). Three 20" Big Blue filter housings and a Minipure ultraviolet water purifier.
First two filters are partical filters and the third is a carbon filter. I've had the system for about 4 years. With just my wife and I living here full-time, I've been changing the filters about every 4-5 months (about $80). Changed out the UV bulb as well recently and that was easier than expected.
We've been drinking the water and so far no health related issues. It's far better tasting water than what they've got in Florida!

Thanks, do you remember the price and manufacturer? I'm off island and coming down in 6 weeks, so I am trying to determine if I should buy here and bring with me or buy it there.

Pour Clorox in cistern to kill bacteria.
Not too much or your water will taste like Clorox.
Keep roof clean, have screens in all downspouts and you should easily get by with a simple filtration system.

I don't remember the price for the complete system honestly, however Gallows Bay keeps all the replacement parts and filters in-stock.
I know I could buy filters in bulk cheaper on line, but ive found things don't necessarily last that long sitting in a garage or anywhere else that's unairconditioned.

First use.....

http://www.rainharvest.com/shop/

Then a filtration system that removes small particles, they are common.

Then a UV system, there are many.

We have been drinking our water for 6 years.

Except for being a little eccentric (LOL) no effects on health

Triple filter (two sediment and 1 carbon) with U/V light - I paid $350 for a system 4 years ago from these guys.
